White Castle Hill Fort
White Castle is an early Iron Age hill fort in the foothills of the Lammermuir Hills near to the village of Garvald, which is about 10 miles from Dunbar. I saw the hill fort marked on the OS map I have of the area and decided to take a trip up there to see if it was worth putting on my places to photograph when the light is right.
The fort is well preserved with the three tier defence ditches still defining this 3000 year old monument. The views across the valley towards Haddington and North Berwick are spectacular with, Traprain Law, The Law and Bass Rock clearly visible in the distance.
Here are some of the images I took with a view to returning at a later date when lighting conditions are better for landscape photography.
FROM THE RCAHMS Website: White Castle, an Early Iron Age fort, stands on a promontory (1,000ft OD) defended on three sides by steep slopes. It is oval on plan, measuring internally 230ft by 180ft, and is surrounded by triple ramparts which may have been topped by stone walls.
