Autograss High Speed Action

Image
On Saturday I went along to the Central Scotland Autograss Club event at Avonbridge to shoot the next feature in the series of Shooting Sport as a Spectator for Fujifilm UK and also shoot a series of images for an upcoming feature in a national newspaper. Because I was fulfilling two roles I signed on as media to shoot the newspaper images but shot all of the pictures and video I needed for the Fujifilm feature from the spectator areas.   However I did shoot a number of images from the inside of the track thanks to the media access granted by the club. Here are some action images taken from the inside of the oval track. All of the images were shot on a Fujifilm X-T2 with the exception of the main image at the top of the page, which was shot on an X-Pro2 and XF16-55mm f2.8 lens.  The two X-T2 bodies were fitted with an XF50-140mm f2.8 and a XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 zoom lens. VIDEO: Autograss Racing with Christie Doran Racing

Image
22-year-old Christie Doran from Falkirk in Scotland is making her mark in the VAG Trophy this season but she is keen to try her hand at any form of motor sport should the opportunity arise.   On Saturday 29 July we traveled to Avonbridge in Stirlingshire to photograph and video her debut in the Class 6 section at the Central Scotland Autograss Club 'Jock Rankin Trophy' meeting. Using a pair of GoPros inside the car and a Fujifilm X-T2 for the external shots, we put together a short 90-second video of Christie in action on the short 400m dirt track oval in the Stirlingshire countryside. Not only did Christie get to grips with the machinery quickly, she won two of the three heats she competed in on her debut. I was also there to shoot the next feature in the series ' Shooting Sport as a Spectator' for Fujifilm UK, which is due to be published in the next couple of weeks. VIDEO: ELMS Grid Timelapse

Image
The build up to a race is always one of the highlights of a European Le Mans Series weekends so I decided to take the two GoPro Hero 5 cameras and set them to record a time-lapse sequence during the 45 minutes from the pitlane opening until the start of the race. The event was held at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on Sunday 23rd July. VIDEO: 4 Minutes of Red Bull Ring

Image
On Friday evening at the Red Bull Ring in Austria a special meet the European Le Mans Series drivers event ended with a race on the slot car track between three drivers - Nicki Thiim (no90 TF Sport), Filipe Albuquerque (no32 United Autosports) and Martin Hippe (no13 Inter Europol Competition)  - members of the media and a fan. The track is a scaled down replica of the actual 4.3km Red Bull Ring circuit but without the big elevation changes.   The video was produced for the official European Le Mans Series website at www.europeanlemansseries.com using GoPro Hero 5 Black, GoPro Hero 5 Session and Fujifilm X-T2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. -----------------------------------------------------------------

Quick Test with the Samyang 12mm f2

Image
Yesterday afternoon I had the opportunity to take the Samyang 12mm f2 wide angle prime lens for a quick walk in the paddock and pitlane during the set up day for the European Le Mans Series event at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.   I already have the superb 8mm f2.8 fisheye made by the Korean manufacturer and I was intrigued to see how good the Samyang 12mm f2 would be in the real world. I am happy to report that the results were just as I expected - they were excellent!  The lens gives the same field of view as an 18mm f2 on a full frame camera.  Like the 8mm fisheye, the 12mm f2 is manual focus only and there is no electronic coupling with the camera so the EXIF data shows the lens to be a 50mm f1.0.  You can set the data in the camera to 12mm manually but in the EXIF data the aperture will always show f1.0 - this is annoying but not a big problem in my book. The build quality of the lens is excellent, it has a solid feel with a metal lens mount.  The aperture ring moves

Shooting Sport as a Spectator Part 6: Eventing

Image
Fujifilm UK have published the sixth part of the twelve part series about Shooting Sport as a Spectator today.  This feature was on Eventing, an equestrian sport that combines Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country. I traveled to an event at Forgandenny in Perthshire earlier this month to get some shots from the event held there.  I found that the restrictions were at an absolute minimum and access for photographers is excellent as long as you respect the course and the officials. I shot the above video on the Fujifilm X-T2 and on the GoPro Hero 5 Black and Hero 5 Session. The full feature is available to view on the Fujifilm website HERE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - tha
