More Horse Power (Published 7th December 2017) Sports photography is a genre that ignites a lot of interest from photographers because, no matter what the sport, it can provide a rich source of material for any photographer wanting to capture action or human interest images. I travel the world with the FIA World Endurance Championship capturing the action happening during the nine race global sports car series that includes the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans.   However in 2017 I have photographed two different sports that also feature plenty of horse power – eventing and horse racing. VIDEO: Snowfall at White Castle

Image
With a small amount of snow falling in the Lammermuir Hills and my 13-year-old Nephew, who is stying with us for the Christmas holidays, itching to see the DJI Mavic Pro drone in action, we headed up to White Castle near Garvald to capture some aerial video and some still images nearer to the ground. Snowfall in the Lammermuir Hills from Fujifilm X Adventure on Vimeo . In the biting wind we flew the drone for around 15 minutes before packing it away to concentrate on some still pictures.  In that time I managed to capture several sweeping shots of the landscape and also captured a 'drone' and 'helix' using the Mavic Pro's in built automatic modes. The stills were taken on the Fujifilm X-T2 with the XF16-55mm f2.8 while the aerial footage was shot on the Mavic Pro in 4K. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS

VIDEO: Innerwick Castle Promo Video

Image
This is the second of the new MacLean Photographic Workshop promotional videos that I have produced and posted on to the VIMEO page.  This one was shot on a very short visit to Innerwick Castle earlier in the week.  Due to the strong winds I decided to keep the flight with the DJI Mavic Pro short and I will go back in the New Year to shoot a longer sequence. VIDEO: First Aerial Video at Barns Ness

Image
Over the winter I am working on some new videos to promote the 2018 MacLean Photographic Workshops.  As part of this I have decided to include some aerial shots of the locations where the workshops will take place. One of the locations is Barn Ness Lighthouse so I filmed during my first test flight of the DJI Mavic Pro I have to get these aerial shots. Barns Ness Lighthouse from Fujifilm X Adventure on Vimeo . I will now be taking the drone to several of the locations around East Lothian and The Scottish Borders to get the shots I need to produce the new promotional videos. A Winter Walk in Pressmennan Wood

Image
On Wednesday this week it will be four years since we moved into our current home in Dunbar on  Scotland's east coast and we are still discovering new places to visit locally.  Today was another first as we went for a walk in Pressmennan Wood, a Woodland Trust Scotland reserve near Stenton just outside Dunbar. While there has been plenty of snow in the Highlands and further south, East Lothian has not seen any of the white stuff, but it has been VERY cold, with the car showing minus 3 degrees as we headed into the hills outside Dunbar. The sun was low in the sky, as it always is at this time of year, which cast long shadows through the trees. Using the Fujifilm X-E3 I have on test until Tuesday I captured some images along our walk around the frozen lake.  The ice was very thin, you certainly couldn't stand on it, but it did make for some really nice images. I used the 23mm f2, 18mm f2 or the 90mm f2 prime lenses for the images on this page. CLICK HERE for mo

Sports Photography as a Spectator Part 9: Horse Racing

Image
The latest edition of shooting sport from the spectator areas is on horse racing for Fujifilm.   I attended the first jump meeting of the 2017/18 season at Musselburgh Racecourse on Wednesday 8th November to shoot the latest feature and came away with a nice selection of images for the Fujifilm website. I shot the event using the Fujifilm X-T2 and Fujifilm X-Pro2 fitted with the XF100-400mm and XF50-140mm f2.8 zooms plus I also used the XF16mm f1.4 prime as well. How Big Can You Print from X-T2 File?

Image
One of the questions I see a lot on social media groups is 'how big can I print an image from a 24mp X series sensor?'  I have posted on this subject before and I regularly print images up to A2 from files from 12mp, 16mp and 24mp sensors.  However I think this image from the European Le Mans Series / Michelin Le Mans Cup event at the Circuit Paul Ricard last September. On each side of the entrance to the main pit building were two tracking shots of the European Le Mans Series and the Michelin Le Mans Cup.  The ELMS image (on the left of the door) was taken by Jakob Ebrey of Jakob Ebrey Photography at Monza at the end of March.  The LMC image was taken by me.   The size of the image can be determined by the entrance to the main building, with the porch above the door 3 metres above the ground so the tracking shot can be estimated as being 4.5 metres (14.75 ft) across and 2m (6.5 ft) high. How big do you want to print an image? The image was shot during the Le Man
