The John Muir Festival

On Easter Monday there was a special celebration in Dunbar - the opening of the John Muir Way that now runs from Dunbar, the birth place of the Scot who was the driving force behind the National Park movement in the USA, and Helensburgh, where the Muir family set sail to America.  The John Muir Way now stretches 134 miles from east to west.

Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond made a speech and there were plenty of street environmentally themed shows for the public to enjoy 100 years after the death of John Muir in 1914.  The celebrations are part of Scotland's Homecoming year of celebration.
