Winter Light

While still officially autumn, winter is definitely upon us. The nights are getting longer and the days shorter. With a keen wind blowing off the hills, the atmosphere here in the south of Scotland has taken on a wintery feel - I love it!

With the coming of winter the sun stays low in the sky and this means that for landscapes you can shoot for most of the day rather than for an hour or two when the sun is low in the summer.  Also with sunrise at 7:40am here in East Lothian there is no need to set the alarm clock for some ungodly hour to catch the sunrise.

This image was taken on Tyninghame beach around midday but the low sun, which was diffused by some high clouds, has produced some beautiful light to highlight the textures in the wet sand.

This shot was taken on the Fuji X-Pro1 on the Fujinon 18mm f2 - 1/160 @f13 - ISO400.  I used a Lee 0.6 ND Soft Grad filter to balance the exposure.
