Japanese Grand Prix - Qualifying Day
I have come to Japan for the sixth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, which takes place at Fuji International Speedway next weekend, but with my FIA Communications hat on I have also taken the opportunity to travel to Suzuka for the Japanese Grand Prix to see how my FIA colleagues run their media office in the world's most famous form of motorsport.
Being on the inside of Formula One gives you a different perspective than the one you get on TV and there isn't a huge difference to how we do things in the WEC, it is just F1 has more resources to get things done.
I watch qualifying from the media centre and then observed the press conference and the TV compound in the paddock. Mark Webber took pole position ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, which is very good for me as the Australian is leaving F1 at the end of the season to join us in WEC with the new Porsche LMP1 challenge. I have everything crossed that Mark will win the race and give me a great story ahead of the 6 Hours of Fuji.
The evening was spent downtown in Suzuka with dinner at a Sushi Bar in the local shopping mall and then onto an Irish themed pub for some Japanese Guinness.
