Schloss Gabelhöfen



have stayed in a lot of hotels for work but I never stayed in a hotel that was a castle.  The Schloss Gabelhofen is 12 kilometres from the Red Bull Ring in the town of Fohnsdorf near Spielberg in Austria.

The former castle had been turned into 57 room hotel in October 1994.




HISTORY
The building was first mentioned in 1443 Riegersdorf as justice, which belonged to the lordship of Liechtenstein in JudenburgIn 1490the courtyard of the Pfanngauerwent, and began the expansion to the Renaissance water Castle.


After the extinction of the dynasty of the Pfanngauerthe castle of the PranckhherrenCatzianer and gall came. 1494 the Liechtenstein took the Castle again and gave it asfief to the Prankhherren around 1536 finished the reconstruction around the year.


In 1596the Gabelkhofner bought the CastleThis family dynasty came in the 14th century from Bavaria in StyriaChristof by Gabelkhoven 1597 received the fiefdomover the Castle by Carl Freiherr von born. In 1897it took Prince Johann of Liechtenstein.
