Yushima Seido - Shrine of Confucius

Just across the road from the entrance to the Kanda Myojin Shrine is Yushima Seido, the Shrine to Confucius.  While the Kanda Myojin Shrine was relatively busy, Yushima Seido was a lot quieter with hardly anyone about, giving the place a sense of calm and relaxation.

Yushima Seido (translated as "Sacred Hall in Yushima") is located in the Yushima neighbourhood of Bunkyo, Tokyo. Yushima Seido was established as a Confucian temple in the Genroku era of the Edo period at the end of the 17th century.

Inside the compound is the world’s largest statue of Confucius, donated in 1975 by the Lions Club of Taipei. There are also statues of the Four Sages, Yan Hui, Zengzi, Kong Ji, and Mencius.

In the 1970s, Yushima Seido was used as the location for scenes in NTV’s Monkey television series.
