Kanda Myojin Shrine

Our first stop in a quick tour of Tokyo that was severly shortened by the arrival overnight of Typhoon Phanfone was the Kanda Myojin Shrine in the Ochanomizu district.

The weather was a revelation with blue skies and warm temperatures belying the fact that two hours earlier a category 5 hurricane had just battered the coast of Japan and swept through Tokyo.  However we certainly weren't complaining as we walked from the hotel to the shrine in bright sunshine.

According to the tourist information we had the Kanda Myojin Shrine was allegedly built in 730AD and is believed to bring luck in business, family and finding future spouses.

There was a steady stream of people making prayers at the alter as well as other visitors taking in the ambiance of this ancient shrine that was hemmed in on all sides by modern buildings and seemed to be an oasis of calm in a busy part of Tokyo.

Using the 56mm f1.2 on the Fujifilm X-T1 and the 18mm f2 on the X-Pro1 I wandered around taking pictures to capture the essence of this Japanese temple.  While I have been favouring mono images of late, the bright colours of the buildings and the carvings had me setting the Fujifilm cameras to the 'Velvia' setting.
