Tantallon Castle

Tantallon Castle, once the stronghold of the mighty Douglas family, Earls of Angus, is still an imposing and mighty presence on the clifftop over looking the Firth of Forth.  Tantallon is steeped in the history of Scotland with the Douglas family tracing their close allegiance with the Scottish crown back to James Douglas, champion to Robert the Bruce.  James' nephew William built Tantallon in 1350 and was the seat of immense power in the south east of Scotland until it was destroyed by Oliver Cromwell's invading army in 1651.
