After the launch of the Fujifilm X-treme project on Tuesday, the first event is unveiled today with John Rourke of Adrenal Media and Jeff Carter of MacLean Photographic traveling to Greenock in Scotland for the Powerboat P1 Superstock racing at the Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea on 24/25 June 2017.

The P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea is the second round of the UK championships for one-design powerboats and last year the event proved to be a massive success with over 30,000 spectators lining the Esplanade in Greenock. The P1 Superstock series returns to Scotland next month and Fujifilm X-treme will be there to cover the event.

As well as shooting the event itself, Fujifilm X-Treme have linked up with one of the race teams, the Spirit of Inverclyde. The Scottish crew from the historic town of Musselburgh on Scotland’s east coast, is driver Davie Finlayson with his daughter Ashleigh alongside him in the cockpit as navigator.

Ashleigh and Davie Finlayson
The highly experienced duo were British Champions in the Zapcat ZCR50X class in 2014 and Davie is the national speed record holder at Coniston Water.   While Davie got his first taste of P1 Superstock as a navigator at last year’s event in Greenock, this will be the team’s first season competing in the P1 Panther powerboat.

As well as shooting at the P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea, the Fujifilm X-treme website will feature a behind the scenes look as the Scottish duo prepare the boat for the opening championship race in Aalborg, Denmark (June 10/11) and then their home race on the River Clyde two weeks later.

Robert Wicks, Powerboat P1 managing director, commented: “The opportunity for Powerboat P1 to team up with the Fujifilm X-treme project has been several months in the making.  The project is intended to showcase the Fujifilm digital camera systems in extreme sport and documentary environments so the link with P1 makes a great deal of sense. Our sport is hugely visual, with fast moving P1 Panther race boats and our fleet of P1 AquaX jet skis racing close to shore providing dynamic and action-packed imagery. The P1 race environment is indeed extreme for the pilots and their equipment and I can think of few better places for Fujifilm to showcase their X-Series and GFX cameras and lenses. We look forward to a highly successful collaboration.

Jeff Carter said: “We are pleased to announce the P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea as the first event for the Fujifilm X-treme project.  The combination of high speed powerboats, adrenaline pumping action and challenging working conditions makes this event the perfect springboard to get the project off the ground and put the X-Series and GFX systems to the ultimate test.

“I would like to thank Robert Wicks and Roy Mantle at Powerboat P1 for their support and also Davie and Ashleigh Finlayson for giving us the behind the scenes access with the team that will provide us with the perfect canvas with which to work.”

The P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea, co-hosted by Riverside Inverclyde and Inverclyde Council with support from Event Scotland, returns to Greenock on the weekend of 24-25 June and is free to watch. It will serve up a feast of high-speed sport and family entertainment, including powerboat and jet ski racing, flyboarding and jet ski freestyle displays. The 2-mile race course will be close-to-shore at Greenock’s Esplanade, which will be transformed into the Esplanade Showcase with exhibition stands and marquees linked to VisitScotland’s Year of History, Heritage & Archaeology.
