Ferrari Pitstop at Spa-Francorchamps
During the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps yesterday I went out onto the podium to get some images of the pitstops. The Ferrari pit was directly below the podium so I was able to shoot the pitstop for the no51 car of James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi from above.
Using the Fujifilm GFX50S and the GF32-64mm f4 zoom I stood against the podium barrier and holding the camera horizontal to the ground, using the cameras rear articulated LCD screen to frame the shot I waited for the car to arrive.
Setting a slow 1/8s shutter speed allowed me to blur the fast working mechanics. Because of the slow shutter speed I had to be careful to avoid camera shake as I was only able to handhold the camera to get this shot. I used the camera strap around the back of my neck to try and use it as a brace which seems to have worked in this image but several images were blurred.
The result is an image I am very happy with and captures the fast moving mechanics at work as they put new tyres of the Ferrari F488 to get it back into the fight.
At the end of the race the two Ferraris finished 1st and 2nd, with the no51 car finishing just behind their teammates Davide Rigon and Sam Bird in the no71 car.
