P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea

Image
Powerboat racing is often associated with speed, action and glamour, so the choice for the first sport to be covered for Fujifilm X-Treme wasn’t a hard one to make.    The P1 SuperStock series is one of the longest standing powerboat championships in the world and the event in Greenock in Scotland would mark the 500th race since it all began in 2003. A few weeks ago we caught up with one of the teams taking part in their first season of P1 for there preseason test in Musselburgh near Edinburgh ( CLICK HERE ). Father and daughter team Davie and Ashleigh Finlayson would be racing the ‘Spirit of Inverclyde’ sponsored P1 Panther boat for the four race series in Denmark, Scotland, Wales and England.   For more on this feature and to see the 'Behind-the-Scenes' video and 73 further images   CLICK HERE   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUP...

On Sunday 28 May John Rourke and Jeff Carter joined the crew of the 'Spirit of Inverclyde' P1 Panther at Musselburgh on the Firth of Forth for the team's initial shake down test ahead of the 2017 P1 SuperStock Series. Father and daughter team Davie and Ashleigh Finlayson will be flying the Scottish Saltire this year during all four of the P1 SuperStock events and their main focus is the P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea on June 24/25 in Greenock. As well as shooting a number of still images during the test with John Rourke using the Fujifilm X-T2 and GFX50S and Jeff Carter the X-T2, Jeff also shot a video interview on the Fujifilm X-T2 to introduce the newest members of the P1 family. Fujifilm Does International Rugby

Image
Last weekend I posted some images from a local rugby match at North Berwick which was a test of the X-Pro2's capabilities in a sport environment, something that it acquitted itself very well.  I can now reveal that last weekend was really a test run for the camera and myself because the ultimate test was yet to come.  I was going to shoot the Six Nations Rugby showdown between Scotland and France at the home of Scottish rugby Murrayfield. This was the first time I had shot a team sport at international level and the pressure was on.  I had joined Scottish rugby photographer Rob Gray who has just moved from Nikon D4S to Fujifilm and had shot the Scotland v England game on an X-T1 and 50-140mm f2.8 with a 1.4x converter.  As well as trying the X-Pro2 and 100-400mm in this ultimate team sports challenge, I wanted to see how Rob found the same combination in a fast moving stadium environment.  This will be the subject of a separate Q&A later this week. ...
