Colourful Ripples

When out shooting landscapes I always keep one eye open for an image that is quite abstract, almost like a painting, with the light and colour producing something that is different and thought provoking.

This shot of a fishing boat in the evening sunshine is a good example.  The strong sunlight coming from the right produced some strong light with the whites, browns and golds of the boat's hull reflected in the water of the harbour.

A strong breeze meant the water wasn't still and the colours of the hull have been mixed up in the blues and blacks of the sea water to give a pleasing effect.

I decided to crop the final image square to improve the composition by balancing the image with 50% of the hull and 50% of the reflection in the water.
