A Short Walk to the Office

I have spent the past two days in Paris on business and will be heading home tomorrow morning.  The weather in the French capital has been quite nice, with a hint of spring in the air as the sun has shone for most of my time here.

The hotel I was staying was just off the Avenue de Wagram near to the Arc de Triomphe and my route to the office took me right past the famous landmark.  The Eiffel Tower is also very prominent on the skyline to the south and it makes for a wonderful sight down the beautiful Parisien streets lined with the tall buildings.

The winter sun was low in the sky and when it broke through the clouds it lit the tops of the buildings but left the rest of it in shadow making for some interesting photography.

The final stop before heading to the office was the Place des Etats-Unis (United States), which has a statue of Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette and General George Washington is a symbol of friendship between the French and American nations during the American Revolution.  The statue was erected in 1895 and a few years later an exact replica was purchased by Charles Broadway Rouss, the New York department store tycoon, which he donated to the people of New York and can be seen in the Morningside Heights neighbourhood of Manhattan.
