Yesterday was the first opportunity for over a month to grab a sunset shot here in Dunbar.  I have been in Austria, France, Germany and on the West Coast of Scotland and when I have been home the weather has not been kind. As the clock was approaching 45 minutes before sunset I grabbed the camera bag and tripod and headed out to the beach below Winterfield Golf Club.  With the tide out the rock pools left at the edge of shore line provided a perfect mirror for the fiery sky as the sun sank lower in the west out of sight behind North Berwick Law. I set one of my Fujifilm X-T1s on the Manfrotto tripod with the Fujinon 10-24mm f4 fitted to it.  I fitted the XF50-140mm f2.8 to the other X-T1 to capture some long telephoto shots of the clouds and the fiery seascape. When out shooting landscapes I always keep one eye open for an image that is quite abstract, almost like a painting, with the light and colour producing something that is different and thought provoking. This shot of a fishing boat in the evening sunshine is a good example.  The strong sunlight coming from the right produced some strong light with the whites, browns and golds of the boat's hull reflected in the water of the harbour.   A strong breeze meant the water wasn't still and the colours of the hull have been mixed up in the blues and blacks of the sea water to give a pleasing effect. I decided to crop the final image square to improve the composition by balancing the image with 50% of the hull and 50% of the reflection in the water. Today was another photographic trip into the Highlands of Scotland visiting Rannoch Moor for sunrise, Glen Orchy, Loch Leven and Glen Coe for sunset.  We took over 700 shots which now have to be edited for tomorrow's blog but here is one shot that stood out on the Lightroom display. This evening, at the end of a beautiful sunny and warm day in East Lothian, we had a family BBQ on White Sands beach.  Of course I took one of my cameras, the X-Pro1 to be precise, to take some shots of the beach as the sun set in the west towards Dunbar.   The clouds had started to bubble up so I put the 10-24mm wide angle zoom on the X-Pro1 and fitted the Lee 10x ND 'Big Stopper' filter + the 0.9 soft grad ND filter to give me a long 30 second exposure.  The shot above, taken at 30s @ f16 iso200, was the result. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...
