The Kelpies Revisited

Last May we visited The Kelpies, the two 30 metre high statues by Glaswegian sculpture Andy Scott near Falkirk.  Yesterday we decided to make a return trip to see them in winter and we were very lucky with the weather, with blue skies over the statues.

The Kelpies are constructed of structural steel with a stainless steel outer skin.  This stainless steel skin reflects the light of the day, and the night, and makes for an amazing sight in all weathers.

There were lots of people in Helix Park enjoying the winter sunshine and the reflective nature of the materials used in the statues made the images taken on the X-T1 come alive with high contrast and bright colours.  In May I produced the final images in black and white, so this time I decided to go for high contrast colour images, though I did indulge in one mono conversion as the contrast in the images suit black and white.

Because there were so many people around the statues I decided to try and capture close up images that showed the materials that the sculpture had used to the best effect.  I used just two lenses on the X-T1, the 56mm f1.2 and the 10-24mm f4 ultra wide angle zoom.
