Clouds and Mountains at Loch Buie

Image
With the Carter household in turmoil getting things packed for our move north to Dunbar in two weeks time and with me heading to Austria tomorrow for Round 3 of the European Le Mans Series at the Red Bull Ring, there hasn't been any time for getting out of the house for photography.  So today's image is one of the unpublished shots from our trip to the Isle of Mull at the end of May. This was taken from the shore of Loch Buie on the south of the island with the clouds breaking up over the mountain after a quick rain storm swept over just 30 minutes before.   That's the beauty of the West Coast of Scotland, the weather can change very quickly and at some times of the year you can get weather from all four seasons in the matter of hours. This shot was taken on the Nikon D800, with the Nikkor 17-35mm f2.8 AF-S.  Exposure was 1/400s @ f8 (ISO200) with a Lee 0.6 ND Soft Grad filter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

Loch Buie

Image
This is the scene from the shores of Loch Buie near to the bridge leading to Lochbuie House and Moy Castle. The village of Lochbuie is situated at the head of Loch Buie on the south coast of the Isle of Mull some 14 miles from the ferry terminal at Craignure. The area is renowned for its scenic landscape, shimmering beaches and abundant wildlife. Lochbuie is also steeped in history as the home of the Clan Maclaine of Lochbuie, an offshoot of the Clan MacLean of Duart, who resided at Moy Castle and then at Lochbuie House. Honesty is the Best Policy

Image
It isn't very often when you come across a retail outlet that stops you in your tracks but the Old Post Office at Loch Buie on the Isle of Mull did exactly that when we visited last week.  The shop isn't operated by a person standing behind a till taking your money, there is an honesty box by the front door where you leave your money for the goods you have taken. In this day and age where shop lifting and crime is a common theme in towns up and down the country, this was completely refreshing and a joy to behold.  There was plenty of stock on display worth hundreds of pounds but still the shop was not manned.   We bought coffee and tea (kettle and fresh water available to use), crisps, fizzy drinks and other items and duly left the correct money in the box by the door.  Wheels of Mull cheese, worth over £5 each), meat, souvenirs and other items were also available to buy. Thank you to the owners of the Old Post Office, you have restored ...

Sruthan a' Ghreusaiche, Isle of Mull

Image
Continuing my theme of images from the West Coast of Scotland, this is another shot from our visit to the Isle of Mull at the end of 2011 to celebrate Hogmanay.  This is one of the rivers that flows into Loch Buie on the south side of the island and it known as Sruath a' Ghreusaiche in Gaelic. The day was a bitterly cold one but the air was perfectly clear, with snow on the mountain top.  It was also a good day for spotting otters as we sat and watch one fishing a little further up the coast road. With less than six weeks until we head to Mull on the 25 May, we are counting the days by posting images from previous visits to this beautiful part of the world. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION If you like what you see on this blog please visit our  Facebook ...
