A Highland Photo Trip: Part 7 Clashnessie Beach to the River Polly

After the stop at Drumbeg we continued following the coast road, dropping down to the beautiful white sand beach at Clashnessie.  The west coast of Scotland is famous for its beaches and Clashnessie is certainly a beautiful sight.  Not sure that I would be taking a dip in that sea though as it looked pretty cold from where I was standing.

As well as taking some standard images on the X-T2 I switched the camera to Panoramic mode to take the image above of the entire bay.

By the time we set off again the rain had returned and the likely hood of a break in the cloud cover looked remote.  However we weren't going to let a bit of Scottish weather dampen our spirits.  We decided to make a short stop at the viewpoint above Achadhantuir to take a shot of the cottage perched high on the hill above Loch a Phollain and to take some close up images of the bracken and lichen, but the cloud cover was proving to be challenging for taking widee landscape images.  But we decided to press on.

After a short coffee stop in Lochinver we continued south towards Inverpolly.  In the distance we could see the mountain tops of Stac Pollaidh and Cul Mor appearing from the cloud cover and the horizon definitely looked brighter than it had been.  We rounded a bend in the road after crossing the River Polly and came across the scene below.  We pulled over and duly broke out the camera bags and tripods to capture the scene.

Using the X-T2 on the tripod I shot the scene of the River Polly meandering through the glen and then fitted the XF50-140mm to take some close up shots of the clouds around the distant mountain top.

In the meantime I was keeping an eye on the sky behind us to the west and the clouds were definitely getting thinner all the time.  With less than an hour to sunset we took the decision to pack up and head to the coast at Altandhu and hope we would get lucky.

Part 8 of this winter photo trip will be on the coast to catch the sunset at Altandhu.
