CAPTURE NEW HORIZONS

On Friday I went out with the XF50-140mm f2.8 lens attached to the X-T1 to carry out some more test shots to report on this blog how this lens is performing for my landscape work. The 50-140mm performed extremely well at Le Mans a couple of weeks ago and this lens with its fast f2.8 aperture and balanced weight on the X-T1 (with the VG-XT1 battery grip fitted) is suited to working at a sporting event.  My other consideration for this lens is for my landscape work.  I was worried that it would be a 'big beast' to lug around but so far I haven't found this to be a problem. On Friday morning I went for a short walk on the clifftop path here in Dunbar with the X-T1 and 50-140mm slung over my shoulder.   My first tip when carrying this lens is to change the anchoring points for the camera strap.  I have used the anchor point on the bottom of the battery grip instead of the top of the camera (see image above).  The reason for this is the camera and...

I was out taking images of Dunbar Harbour at sunset when I saw the moon above the town.  I trained my Fuji X-Pro1 and 55-200 lens and took a couple of shots.  The result was cropped in Photoshop Elements 11 using the 'photo ratio' function, which interpolates the image so the number of pixels stay the same, and this was the result.  It proves the air is pretty clear in this part of the world, not much in the way of air or light pollution. I am also pretty impressed with the performance of the Fujinon 55-200mm lens to crop into the image to get a result that is still sharp just demonstrates the quality of the glass that Fujifilm are using in this lens. Last night I took six long exposure images of the bridge at Belhaven Bay by moonlight and I was very pleased the result ( CLICK HERE to see the image).   However, while I always try to get things exposed correctly in the camera, I view an image as a starting point and not the end product.  I usually like use the RAW file and manipulate the image in Lightroom or Photoshop to see if I can get a better or more pleasing result. Well the image above was manipulated in PSE11 and then converted in NIK Analogue Efex to give a cooler, moon lit, feeling to the image and I think this shot works better than yesterday's image The image was shot on a Nikon D800 and 17-35mm f2.8 AF-S lens and the exposure was 177 seconds at f8 and ISO200 (a tripod and remote release was also used).   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLI...
