REVIEW: What is the Best Fuji Kit Lens? Part 2

Image
Two weeks ago I received a Fujinon XF18-135mm f3.5/5.6 and a XF18-55mm f2.8/4 to do a comparison on which is the best kit lens for the X Series.  This is a question that I wanted to answer as I had been asked several times over the last few months this very question by readers of this blog and followers on social media.   I  have the superb XF16-55mm f2.8 professional zoom lens but with a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) tag of £959 this lens is quite pricey for most photographers. I did a first initial test of the XF18-135mm R LM OIS WR on the 10th January ( CLICK HERE to see this test) and last weekend I conducted a test of the shorter XF18-55mm R LM OIS with a walk out along the East Lothian coast at Yellowcraig near North Berwick. First of all, perhaps understandably, the XF18-55mm is a lot smaller and compact than the 18-135mm (and a lot smaller than the f2.8 standard zoom) and it has a maximum aperture of f2.8 to f4 compared to f3.5 to f5.6.  ...

Red Leaf on the Beach

Image
Sometimes an image is set up for you and this picture is one of those times.   This red leaf was nestled in the black rocks on the beach at Yellowcraigs and just seems to be too 'picture' perfect.  However before I receive messages saying the leaf was placed there by yours truly I can put my hand on heart and say I never moved a thing. Several shots were taken but these two were the standout images. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE WITHOUT PRIOR PE...

Fidra Island Lighthouse

Image
Just a couple of miles from North Berwick in the Firth of Forth is the island of Fidra, which is said to be the inspiration for the map that Robert Louis Stevenson used in his book Treasure Island.     A visit to Yellowcraig beach on a day when the weather could be best described as changeable with sunshine one minute and then pouring rain the next.  However it did provide for some spectacular lighting conditions as the white lighthouse on Fidra stood out against the dark clouds. The lighthouse on Fidra was built in 1885 and automated in 1970 and is one of several lighthouses along the Firth of Forth, guiding ships towards Edinburgh and Leith.
