CAPTURE NEW HORIZONS

The beauty of living in East Lothian is being able to photograph the scenery in all weathers.  While I love a beautiful sunrise as much as the next landscape photographer, you can't beat a good stormy day with lots of drama to get the creative juices flowing. Take this image for example.  This shot was taken on the Fujifilm X-Pro2 and the XF100-400mm telephoto to compress the perspective, making Bass Rock appear to be a lot closer to my position in Belhaven than it actually is, which is about 7 miles away.  All I had to do was wait for someone to walk into the frame to give the image a focal point. Before I traveled to China we decided to explore the East Lothian coast nearer to Edinburgh. Our first stop off point was the beach near the Prestongrange Industrial Heritage Museum near Prestonpans.   The wind was pretty strong and this meant the sea was a little on the rough side.  The legacy of the old industrial site were everywhere to see and artifacts from the old harbour, which is now filled in, can be seen everywhere, like this concrete block. Prestongrange is a free museum - managed by East Lothian Council Museums - and an open-air site of major importance in the story of Scotland's Industrial Revolution. It was the location of a sixteenth-century harbour, a seventeenth-century glass works, eighteenth- and nineteenth-century potteries and a nineteenth/twentieth-century coal mine and brick works. In December 2011 the short 40-minute ferry crossing from Oban to Craignure on the Isle of Mull was a little 'choppy' as high winds has whipped up the seas in the Sound of Mull.  This is shown in these shots of the Lismore Lighthouse as the CalMac ferry "Isle of Mull" sailed by.
