Rainbow over Loch Fyne

Image
Landscape photography is mostly about planning to be in the right location and waiting for the right light.  However sometimes you just 'luck in' and this happened to me yesterday on the shore of Loch Fyne in the Highlands of Scotland. We were traveling back up the A82 to Inveraray when it started to rain.  The village has a small harbour so we decided to stop and wait for the rain to clear through.  As I was parking the car the light suddenly changed and a full rainbow appeared above the anchorage, highlighted by the dark rain clouds further up the loch. I grabbed the X-Pro2 with the Samyang 8mm fisheye to get the full arch rainbow.  I then had time to switch to the 50-140mm to get a closer shot of the rainbow hitting the sailing vessel moored up and then the 18mm f2 to get a different viewpoint before the rain stopped and the rainbow disappeared. It was a beautiful sight and one that I was in the right place at the right time to capture - pure luck!! ...

Fishing Boats

Image
We took a trip out to Seacliffe beach on Tuesday evening and while sitting on the sand watching the scene before us we spotted two fishing boats heading across the bay towards North Berwick. The two trawlers looked so small against Bass Rock and the Isle of May and the low cloud cover added a sense of drama to the scene.  The gannets circling above The Bass can be clearly seen on the image above. The last shot was taken on our return to Dunbar.  We spotted a square rigged vessel moored just off cliffs at Winterfield, with one of the big tankers, that has been moored off Dunbar for three weeks, in the background with a small fishing boat weaving its way between the two larger vessels. Little and Large

Image
This was the scene a few weeks ago when I spotted the ' Marean' coming back to Dunbar with a large tanker on the horizon heading towards the Firth of Forth.  The contrast in the sizes between the 28ft Creel boat, which was built in 1949, and the large tanker is clear to see. The seas off the East Lothian coast is a busy shipping lane for merchant ships and when vessels are waiting to to enter the Firth of Forth they usually mooring just off Dunbar to wait for the call to enter port. The image was taken on the Fujifilm X-T1 and the XF55-200mm f3.5/4.8 lens. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF ...

Container Ship on the Firth of Forth

Image
Ships and boats of all sizes use the Firth of Forth and the waters off Dunbar is busy with sea traffic on a daily basis.  Sitting on the beach in Belhaven Bay this brightly coloured container ship caught my attention and as the sun set the colours of the sea, sky and beach contrasted nicely with the red hull of the ship. Ship Passing Through the Sound of Mull

Image
This was the scene two weeks ago when I was travelling down to Salen from Tobermory to photograph the derelict trawlers early in the morning.  I saw a survey vessel heading back towards Oban through the Sound of Mull so I pulled the car over to take some shots of the scene with the Nikon D800 and Sigma 50-500mm telephoto.  On the left of the picture is the Scottish mainland and on the right is Mull. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE NEW GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION If...
