VIDEO: Dramatic Coastline at Fast Castle

Image
It has been a busy few weeks here at MacLean Photographic getting the new website built and ready for public viewing.   I have also been out with the DJI Mavic Pro drone shooting a series of videos to show the locations that we will visit on the MacLean Photographic workshops.  This has also proven to be problematic due to the almost constant windy weather since December, so the windows of opportunity to get out and fly have been limited. The above video was shot last week at one of my favourite locations at Fast Castle along the coast in the Scottish Borders. The folded rock formations are really dramatic and the aerial view point from out at sea really captures the nature of the geology in this part of the world. When I have completed my visits to all of the locations that feature on the MacLean Photographic workshops I will be editing a video that includes a selection of locations.  That will be coming soon. The image at the top of the page was taken on...

Melrose Abbey

Image
The town of Melrose in the Scottish Borders is famous for the birthplace of Rugby Sevens and for the ruins of the 12th Century Cistercian Abbey.  The Abbey was founded in 1136 by King David I and it was largely destroyed by the English Army of Richard II in1385.  The Abbey was rebuilt and what remains is mainly from the early 15th Century and is reputed to be the most beautiful monastic ruins in Great Britain. Melrose Abbey is also the place where the heart of Robert the Bruce is buried. The Scottish King was buried at Dumfermline Abbey after his death in 1329 but the king requested his heart be buried in Melrose. An excavation was led to find a sealed casket, but it was not opened, and it was actually discovered by high school students involved in the dig. The casket was placed in a sealed lead cylinder, and was then re-buried in the abbey back at its proper resting place. We arrived for our visit late in the afternoon on Saturday 4 March and we pretty much had t...

Scottish Borders - Landscapes in Colour

Image
Yesterday I posted five images in black and white from my recent trip down to the Scottish Borders.  Today I am posting nine more from the same trip but this time in colour. These images were all taken in the afternoon after the cloud cover had started to break up and the low sun provided a very contrasty light over the snow covered landscape.  At low levels where the snow had melted the bright ruddy colours of the bracken and the grass contrasted nicely the snow on the higher ground. Here are the images I took on the Fujifilm X-T2 using with the XF10-24mm f4, XF16-55mm f2.8 or the XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 lenses. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. ---------------------------------------------...
