CAPTURE NEW HORIZONS

In July 2015 I posted a review of the Fujifilm X-T10 which I tested alongside my X-T1 as a lightweight alternative to the larger and more expensive camera.  So when Fujifilm announced the launch of the X-T20 I was keen to put one to the test.   I took an X-T20 along with me to the FIA World Endurance Championship event at Spa-Francorchamps and also shot the TCR International Series race during the European Le Mans Series event in Monza.  I also took a few shots with it during the recent Water Ski event at Hazelwood Ski Centre last month and these three events really put the X-T20 through its paces. Like the X-T10, the T20 is tiny compared to it's bigger brother.  Even with the battery grip removed from the T2,  the picture above shows the larger camera dwarfing the X-T20.   Now this can be seen as a good thing if you are traveling and need a lightweight camera with a big punch but when using it with long lenses such as the 50-140mm or 100-400m...

Yesterday afternoon Monza hosted the opening round of the Michelin Le Mans Cup and I was on the grid before the start of the race to shoot a few images of the teams and drivers during the build up to the two hour race. I used the Fujifilm GFX50S fitted with the GF32-64mm f4 lens to capture these images.  They were all shot with the aperture set at f4 to give the shallowest depth of field as possible. This is the perfect environment for the GFX, capturing some behind the scenes environmental portraits and the resulting medium format images stand out from the images produced on full frame or crop frame cameras. This weekend at the European Le Mans Series event at Monza I filmed the first interview with young driver Ross Gunn, who is racing the GTE class with the Beechdean AMR team alongside team owner Andrew Howard and Aston Martin Racing works driver Darren Turner. Ross won the British GT4 title in 2015 and went on to win the Aston Martin Academy shootout at Bahrain at the end of the season in front of all the FIA World Endurance Championship teams. This year Ross has stepped up to the European stage and will make his debut at the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans next month. We will be following two young drivers, French pilot Yann Ehrlacher and British hotshot Ross Gunn and here is the first episode with Ross. As a pitlane / portrait camera the Fujifilm GFX50S continues to impress.  I decided to take it for a walk in the pitlane during the set up day for the 4 Hours of Monza weekend, which wil be round 2 of the 2017 European Le Mans Series this Sunday. All of the images were shot using the GF120mm f4 macro lens, which is a really useful portrait lens as well as a close focusing lens.  I still prefer the 110mm f2 lens I tried in Spa last weekend but the results from the 120mm don't disappoint.
