A First Review of the Fujifilm X-T4

Image
This week I am going to look at the new Fujifilm X-T4, which Fujifilm started shipping to customers who had pre ordered their cameras last week. I have owned every edition of the X-T line up since the X-T1 was launched in 2014 and I still have an X-T2 and X-T3.  So, what makes the X-T4 worth buying? Pre Production Testing My X-T4 arrived a couple of days ago but, as a Fujifilm X-Photographer, I did get to test a pre-production sample in February for a few hours while I was working at the FIA World Endurance Championship event in Texas.  I was supposed to have an X-T4 for a four-day test in March at the 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida, but, like many things recently, the Covid19 pandemic put the kybosh on that.  So, I am now playing catch up. What I found with my short time with the camera in Texas was the layout of the buttons and dials is almost identical to the previous generation X-T models, which is a good thing. This made shooting ...

Wildflowers at Innerwick Castle

Image
This afternoon we went for a walk up at the Thornton Glen Nature Reserve near Innerwick, which also includes the ruins of Innerwick Castle. At this time of year the woods are a blaze of colours as the wild flowers bloom in the spring sunshine.  The banks leading down to the burn are covered in white flowers of the wild garlic, and there are also small pockets of bluebells but not was many as in previous years. The sunshine was coming down through the tree tops, with the branches creating shafts of light that highlighted some of the flowers. I used the Fujifilm GFX and the 120mm f4 macro lens to photograph some of the flowers in details and also used the GF32-64mm f4 zoom to get a wider view. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support...

Down at the Harbour

Image
Yesterday was the first MacLean Photographic workshop of the 2016 season and after a quick presentation we headed down to the harbour to put into practice what had been discussed indoors. A beautiful sunny day in Dunbar provided the perfect conditions for some photography with the boats, both in and out of the water, providing colourful subject matter. I was on hand to provide one-to-one tuition and don't take that many images when teaching, but I also had my camera handy to take a picture to illustrate a point about exposure or composition. Here are some of the images from the photography workshop, all taken on the Fujifilm X-T1 and 16-55mm f2.8. Door Bells

Image
When out and about with my camera I love looking for those little details to point my lens at.   Yesterday while in Edinburgh I spotted these old mechanical door bell pullers on a street just off the Royal Mile. I don't know if they were still operational but I suspect they were.   The bright red of the door and the blue of the wall contrasts nicely with the battered grey and black of the door bells. The image was shot with a Fujifilm X-Pro2 and a XF56mm f1.2 lens. I shot the image at f1.2 to give an extremely shallow depth of field and the resulting shutter speed was 1/1000s at 200 ISO. The image was shot in RAW and then run through the Nik Analog Efex software to complete the final image with an old classic feel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support...
