CalMac and Lismore

Image
The Sound of Mull is a busy waterway for the ferries coming and going to Oban out to the islands and they all have to pass by the Lismore Lighthouse which is situation on the opposite side of the channel from Duart Point. This is a shot of the Craignire to Oban ferry passing by the lighthouse on its way back to Oban. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE NEW GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION If you like what you see on this blog please visit our  Facebook  page and click 'lik...

Ferry Travel, Scottish Style

Image
We've just arrived back in Grantham after a wonderful week on the Isle of Mull. It is a long and boring 10 hours of driving back from the West Coast of Scotland but the highlight is the two ferry crossings we have to take. Unlike crossing the English Channel on a ferry (I prefer to take the Tunnel), a ferry crossing in Scotland is much more of an adventure as the scenery is stunning. The Lochaline ferry arriving at the Fishnish terminal The first crossing on our way home is the 20-minute journey from Fishnish on the Isle of Mull over to Lochaline on the mainland. I always prefer to travel the other way and land in Fishnish but it is still a great place to take a ferry as the Sound of Mull is beautiful. The Sound of Mull from the ferry The second ferry is the short 5 minute journey across the bottom of Loch Linnhe just south of Fort William.  This crossing cuts out a 35 mile trip around the Loch and once across we then head south through Glen Coe and Rannoch Moo...

Stormy Crossing to Mull

Image
In December 2011 the short 40-minute ferry crossing from Oban to Craignure on the Isle of Mull was a little 'choppy' as high winds has whipped up the seas in the Sound of Mull.  This is shown in these shots of the Lismore Lighthouse as the CalMac ferry "Isle of Mull" sailed by.
