CAPTURE NEW HORIZONS

One of my favourite spots to visit in and around Dunbar is Doon Hill with its sweeping views of the East Lothian countryside and coastline. We made the trip up to the hill earlier today, dodging the bands of heavy rain sweeping across the coast from the west.  The fields at the top of the hill are filled with barley, which is nearly time for harvesting. As we walked up the sunlight hitting the golden crop contrasted nicely with the dark skies as the next rain front moved in. Yesterday while up on the top of the North Berwick Law, which gave us some spectacular views of the East Lothian coastline, I spotted some patterns in the fields below us. When out taking photographs I am always looking for photographs within photographs, by that I mean I am looking for something that catches my eye within a sweeping landscape or a something small within a larger subject.  As a photographer I am attracted to patterns, colours and abstract shapes that could make an interesting picture. With spring now upon us the fields are now turning from brown  to green and the tracks made by the tractors as the farmers spray their growing crops made for some interesting patterns when viewed from above. Using the Fujifilm X-T1 and the 55-200mm f3.5/4.8 telephoto zoom I was able to isolate parts of the fields to provide a couple of interesting images. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

The fields surrounding our new home near the village of Innerwick is full of arable crops waiting to be harvested in the coming weeks.  On Doon Hill the fields are full of wheat and a sunny evening provided me with the opportunity to get some harvest images. While out and about in the Vale of Belvoir we came across this old barn on the top of the hill near the village of Branston.  I love old, dilapidated farm building as they make for interesting subjects, even a bit 'spooky' and this building was perfect for mono images with a bit of atmosphere. The interior of the building was very dark so the decision was taken to put a couple of remote wireless flashes into the doorway to light the interior. The rest of our time was spent getting detail images of the building.  It will be good to return to this location late in the evening or early in the morning when the light is better, but I'm very pleased with this 'find' and have added it my list of photographic locations. This was taken in the Derbyshire Peak District near to the village of Priestcliffe just off the A6 near Buxton.  We'd stopped to take some shots of Lichen on a wall when I saw this scene on the other side of the road just as the clouds started to break.   Sheep are curious animals and when I stood behind a dry stone wall to get the shot the sheep just stood there staring at me while I got the shot.  After a couple of minutes it went back to eating grass but not before the sunlight had lit the scene.
