Going Wide - Testing the New Fujinon XF10-24mm f4R OIS WR in Bahrain

Image
Regular readers of my ramblings will know that the Fujinon XF10-24mm f4 has been a workhorse for my style of photography since I purchased the lens back in May 2014.  In May I wrote a feature on my first six years with this lens using it for landscape, sport and wildlife. Recently Fujifilm announced a Mark 2 version of this lens, with a marked aperture ring and, most importantly for my work, weather resistance.  As an X Photographer I contacted Fujifilm UK and they sent me a test lens to try out in Bahrain where I was working on the final round of the 2019/20 FIA World Endurance Championship. What's The Difference? Size wise the lens are very similar, as can be seen in the image above where the new lens is on the left and the older version on the right. The newer lens is slightly less 'chunky' but the overall height is unchanged. On the side of the MK2 the two switches that control OIS and Auto/Manual aperture have gone and the aperture ring is now marked with F4 to F2...

Track Action in Mexico

Fujifilm X-T2 + XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 - 1/125s @ f7.1 ISO200 - focal length 386mm This weekend I am in Mexico City with the FIA World Endurance Championship and I went trackside at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez to get some shots during the two 90-minute Free Practice sessions. The images were shot on an X-T2 with either the XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 zoom lens, XF50-140mm f2.8 or the XF50mm f2 prime. The 6 Hours of Mexico will be shown live on the FIAWEC App and website.  More details at www.fiawec.com  Fujifilm X-T2  + XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 - 1/60s  @ f7.1 ISO100 - focal length 203mm Fujifilm X-T2 + XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 - 1/800s @ f5.6 ISO640 - focal length 400mm Fujifilm X-T2 + XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 - 1/800s @ f5 ISO640 - focal length 261mm Fujifilm X-T2 + XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 - 1/800s @ f5.6 ISO640 - focal length 400mm Fujifilm X-T2 + XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 - 1/800s @ f5.6 ISO640 - focal...

Practice for the 6 Hours of Nurburgring

Image
This weekend I am in Germany for Round 4 of the FIA World Endurance Championship and after the thrills and spills of Le Mans, the WEC returns to the 6-hour format at the Nurburgring. I went trackside during the first two Free Practice sessions yesterday in my capacity as the FIA Media Delegate to shoot some images from various locations around the circuit to check that the access was OK for the other photographers.  I also had to get some images for FIA.com, the official website for the world governing body of motor sport, who I work for on the WEC. I decided that some of the images would look better in black and white so I convert them in NIK Silver Efex Pro2 in post production. All images were taken on a pair of Fujifilm X-T2 using various lenses. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS P...

Postcard from the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans

Image
The 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans was exciting in more ways than one.  The overall podium looked like it might have an LMP2 competitor on the top step as all of the manufacturer LMP1 cars hit trouble with three retiring and the other two spending long periods in the garage before rejoining the track well down the order. The eventual winner was the no2 Porsche of Brendon Hartley (pictured above), Earl Bamber and Timo Bernhard, which had rejoined the track in 54th place overall and 20+ laps behind after the front axle of the car had to be replaced.  The German-New Zealander trio fought their way back up the order to take the lead with just one hour left on the clock. There were two LMP2 cars on the overall podium with Jackie Chan DC Racing finishing 1st (no38 car pictured above) and 3rd (no37 car) in the P2 class, with the 3rd placed car promoted to 2nd (and 3rd overall) when the no13 Vaillant Rebellion was disqualified for cutting a hole in the bodywork to access the sta...
