A Walk to Edin's Hall Broch

Image
Today we took a  ride out to Abbey St Bathans with the intention of walking out to see the Edin's Hall Broch, a 2000 year old round house that was very rare in the south of Scotland. The walking route took us along part of the Southern Upland Way and followed the Whiteadder Water and the circular route was about 7 miles in length following the well marked Abbey St Bathans pathway. The Broch is perched high above the river valley and there are great views all around.  The Broch itself is very visible and there is evidence of other buildings in the same area. Not much is known about why this structure, which is more common in west and north Scotland, was built in this location and whether the other building were part of the same settlement or were built in another period. Beautiful Seacliff

Image
I had another opportunity to visit one of my favourite locations here on the East Lothian coast and that is the small sandy beach at Seacliff. The beach is reached via a private road (there is a £3 charge to access the road)  and it leads down to the car park behind the cove.  As you look out in front Bass Rock is right in front, to the left is the Gegan and the tiny harbour and to the right is St Baldred's Cross, which is the outer marker for the Firth of Forth. Once you get onto the beach you can look across and see the ruins of Tantallon Castle on the cliff top. The reason for the visit was to allow a fellow photographer the opportunity test the X-T2 and XF100-400mm on his favourite genre - wildlife.  So we headed to the cliffs by the Gegan to take some shots of the Fulmars that are starting to set up home in the cliffs. All images shot on the Fujifilm X-Pro2 with a XF10-24mm f4 or Fujifilm X-T2 with a XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 ...

Sports Photography as a Spectator Part 1: Rugby

Image
Yesterday Fujifilm posted the first of a series of features on shooting sports from the spectator areas and how to get great images without the luxury of a media pass.   The first feature is on rugby which I shot at the Scottish RugbyBT East Region League 1 fixture between North Berwick and Ross High and followed it the next day with the Aviva Premiership match between Sale Sharks and Wasps . I didn't post any images from the North Berwick encounter because I was waiting for the feature to be published, so I have decided to post some of the highlights from the match that saw North Berwick beat Ross High 60 points to 3.
