Street Photography with Damien Demolder

Image
Yesterday I attended a 90 minute Street Photography seminar at Park Cameras' central London store hosted by former Amateur Photographer magazine editor Damien Demolder. After a short introduction he took us off into Soho Square where we were briefed to get shots of people enjoying the sunshine and spotlit against a dark background. Here are my three best shots uploaded directly to my Google Nexus tablet from the Fujifilm X-T1 via WiFi. The pictures were all shot in JPEG and RAW, with the JPEG setting on Mono with a red filter. Images taken on an Fujifilm X-T1 and Fujinon 56mm f1.2. uploading images from the X-T1 on the go

Image
This weekend I am in London for a few days in the capital with my family. I decided to leave my laptop at home but I forgot that I use the computer to update this blog. However this did give me the ideal opportunity to try the X-T1's Wi-Fi capabilities by transferring images taken at the Harry Potter Studio Tour to my Google Nexus 7 tablet and upload to the blog from there. Only jpeg images can be transferred, but I have already proven that the jpeg output from the Fuji is excellent and I always shoot RAW + JPEG.  I have a copy of Snapspeed on the tablet, so I made some minor adjustments before uploading these images to the blog. The process is a little more long winded than using the laptop, and I have less control, but the system does work and it means I can travel lighter than normal. Which for my precious family time is a good thing. More images from the Harry Potter Tour to follow next week. --------------------------------------------------------------------...

Sunset at Dunbar Castle and Harbour

Image
This is a shot of the harbour here in Dunbar with the sun setting behind the ruins of the castle that guards the entrance to the safe haven for fishing boats and pleasure craft alike. Dunbar Harbour has been a working fishing port for centuries and is still one of the few harbours used for both working trawlers and pleasure yachts.  A town of three harbours, Dunbar was once a major herring and whaling port with the old harbour dating from 1710. Dunbar Harbour is a busy working port with a commercial fleet landing mainly shellfish. There is a thriving Sailing Club and a Coastal Rowing Club and it attracts many diving clubs to enjoy the seas around Dunbar. The harbour is also home to one of the largest lifeboat stations in the area. CLICK HERE for the Dunbar Harbour Trust website. Long Exposure at White Sands Beach

Image
This evening, at the end of a beautiful sunny and warm day in East Lothian, we had a family BBQ on White Sands beach.  Of course I took one of my cameras, the X-Pro1 to be precise, to take some shots of the beach as the sun set in the west towards Dunbar.   The clouds had started to bubble up so I put the 10-24mm wide angle zoom on the X-Pro1 and fitted the Lee 10x ND 'Big Stopper' filter + the 0.9 soft grad ND filter to give me a long 30 second exposure.  The shot above, taken at 30s @ f16 iso200, was the result. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

REVIEW: My Thoughts on the X-T1 after 10,000 images in 2 Months

Image
For me the Fujifilm X-T1 is a game changer, pure and simple;  this is the camera that made me decide to put my Nikon DSLR gear up for sale, which is a huge step for someone like me. Two months and 10,000 shots into ownership of the Fujifilm flagship camera, here are my thoughts, both good and bad. First I have to point out that I use Fuji cameras because they are the perfect tools for working with for my style of photography.  I am not paid by Fuji, I don't have any deals with Fuji, I just enjoy using their cameras and lenses.  They are tools of my trade and they allow me to get the best images I can. Now that is out of the way, here are the things I like and the things that could be better on the X-T1.  I still haven't fully tested all of the systems on the camera yet (timelapse for example) but the functions I have used have, on the whole, impressed me.  For my style of photography, mirrorless cameras are now a direct rival to DSLRs and, in some insta...

Heading Home After Le Mans

Image
It has been a long 9 days for the 24 Hours of Le Mans event and, while it has been very successful and the race was one of the best in many years, it is now time to head home to Dunbar.   This is a shot of Belhaven Bay, which is a short 5 minute walk from our home, that I took on the last evening before I flew to France.   This image is a good reminder that while I have one of the best jobs that allows me to travel the world and see some fantastic places, it is always good to be going home.  I am certainly looking forward to walking on that beach tomorrow morning. image taken on a Fujifilm X-T1 + Fujinon XF18mm f2R -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ...

Night Time at Le Mans

Image
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the greatest events in the world and, as the name suggests, the race runs over one complete day, which means there are plenty of opportunities for night shots. Using the tripod to mount the Fujifilm X-T1 and 35mm f1.4 lens I did a long exposure of the last corner looking towards the funfair in the public area.  The cars produced light trails as they sped past my position on the 3rd floor of Module Sportif. From the same balcony I was able to shoot down the pitlane into the Toyota pit box when the no7 TS040 came into the pits for a stop.  Unfortunately not long after this shot was taken the car ground to a halt out on track while leading the race and Kazuki Nakajima was forced to abandon the Toyota. This shot was of the FIA flag flying alongside the flag of the ACO and the French Tricolour above the podium. And the final shot from the night is of the no98 Aston Martin Vantage heading to the pits with a problem that forced th...
