Photographing the Nissan LMP1 launch with the new Fuji 10-24mm

Image
Yesterday I attended Nissan's press conference in London where the Japanese manufacturer announced they will be joining the FIA World Endurance Championship as a full LMP1 manufacturer entry in 2015 - see news on the official FIA WEC website HERE .    Before I went to the event I called into Park Cameras ' London store to pick up my new Fujinon XF10-24mm f4 and I used this lens during the press conference to get the pictures to accompany my press release on the website and on the official FIAWEC Facebook page . Here are some of the images from yesterday's press conference and I will report on my initial findings using the 10-24mm zoom tomorrow. Trusting Your Instincts

Image
Over the past few days I have been working on a car feature for the FIA World Endurance Championship website and have been photographing an Audi R8 V8 quattro in and around Dunbar (more on that in the next few days).   On Wednesday morning I got up early to take the car to White Sands, Barns Ness and Dunbar Harbour to take some shots of the car in these beautiful locations but when I looked out of the window there was thick fog and I could hardly see the house across the road.  I nearly got back into bed but something at the back of my mind said 'get out there, it will be fine'.   So I got into the car and headed down to White Sands in the still 'pea souper' conditions.  However as I headed down the single track road to the beach I could see blue sky starting to appear above the beach.   I  parked the car and started to take some detail shots of the car and some moody 'in the mist' images (see main shot) but it wasn't what I wanted.   I wa...

Look Up: Part 9

It has been over a month since my last post on the 'Look Up' project but with trips to France, Silverstone, Belgium and Italy, it has been a hectic time to try and fit in this essentially personal project. Here are three more images from Dunbar and Belhaven where I had to Look Up to get the shot. Hailes Castle - Revisited

Image
Last week, before I went to Italy, I took an early morning walk up by Hailes Castle in the glorious spring sunshine.  I had been up to Hailes on one previous occasion just after we moved to East Lothian but I hadn't been back since. The ruins of Hailes Castle sits on the edge of the River Tyne near East Linton and there is a really nice walk near the river with lots of wild flowers at the this time of year ( CLICK HERE for the blog on this walk), I had decided to revisit the castle to take more shots of the ruins and also see if I could come up with a better view of the ruins as it is difficult to get a good composition due to its proximity to the river.  However on this morning I think I have found a better view for a morning visit. Here are some of the shots from the latest visit to Hailes Castle CLICK HERE for the previous blog on Hailes Castle (21 August 2013), which includes the dramatic history of this ruin. ...

Senna Remembered - 20 Years On

Image
Sunday 1st May 1994 is a day seared into the memory of almost every motorsport fan around the world. This was the day the three time F1 world champion Ayrton Senna lost his life at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola when his Williams Renault impacted with the wall on the outside of Tamburello Curve. It was the final element to one of the blackest weekends in motorsport history. Austrian Roland Ratzenberger also lost his life in an accident on Saturday and Rubens Barrichello's Jordan also hitting the barriers hard during Friday's practice, the Brazilian taken unconscious to the medical centre but he did make a full recovery. On the 1st May 2014, 20 years after the fatal accident, 25,000 fans from around the world descended on Imola to remember one of the sports greatest drivers.  Two weeks later on Friday 16th May I paid a personal visit to the spot at Tamburello, which is marked by mementos and Brazilian flags, to reflect on the events I witnesse...

On the Grid in Imola

Image
Earlier today I posted a blog with the images from the autograph session in the pitlane at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola yesterday.  This was a test of the capabilities of the Fuji AF system to cope with a busy environment.   Yesterday afternoon I went onto the grid before the race in my role as the Media Delegate but I took the opportunity to grab a few people shots for the official ELMS website and Facebook page.   As I did in Spa I had both the X-T1 and X-Pro1 in operation. The X-T1 fitted with the 55-200mm and the X-Pro1 with the 14mm f2.8 wide angle which enabled me to shoot different shots without the need to change lenses.   Here are some of the highlights from the grid in Italy. Images 1 to 4 and 9 taken on a Fujifilm X-Pro1 + Fujinon 14mm f2.8. Images 5 to8 and 10 to12 taken on a Fujifilm X-T1 and Fujinon XF55-200mm f3.5/4.8R LM OIS ----------------------------------------...
