Brussels Press Conference

Image
Yesterday was another busy day for the FIA World Endurance Championship as we prepare for the next race at Spa-Francorchamps on the 2/ 3 May.  We traveled to Brussels to hold a press conference at the Autoworld car museum in Brussels, which was attended by 36 Belgian media.   As well as organising the event I was also acting as the official photographer, which gave me another opportunity to put the Fujifilm X-T1 through its paces.  This camera continues to impress and I will do a full initial report after Spa. Here are some of the images from the press launch taken on both the X-T1 and X-Pro1 All images taken on the Fujifilm X-T1 and X-Pro1 + Fujinon 14mm, 35mm and 55-200mm lenses -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small ...

The John Muir Festival

Image
On Easter Monday there was a special celebration in Dunbar - the opening of the John Muir Way that now runs from Dunbar, the birth place of the Scot who was the driving force behind the National Park movement in the USA, and Helensburgh, where the Muir family set sail to America.  The John Muir Way now stretches 134 miles from east to west. Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond made a speech and there were plenty of street environmentally themed shows for the public to enjoy 100 years after the death of John Muir in 1914.  The celebrations are part of Scotland's Homecoming year of celebration. Here are some of the shots I took in the High Street on Monday - All images taken on the Fujifilm X-T1 and X-Pro1 + Fujinon 18mm and 55-200mm lenses -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn'...

REVIEW: Initial Impressions of the Video Function on the Fujifilm X-T1

Image
One of the many reasons for getting the Fujifilm X-T1 is its ability to record full HD video with an external microphone, which is something the X-Pro1 and X100 doesn't have.  I use the video function on my cameras to record driver interviews and press conferences and the ability to use an external microphone is a huge advantage.   Up to now I have been favouring my Nikon D800 with the Nikon ME1 external microphone but I haven't been carrying the large Nikon outfit on the long haul races, preferring to use the HD video function on the X-Pro1 and using the internal microphone, which is not ideal.  This weekend at Silverstone i had the first opportunity to use the Fujifilm X-T1 in the qualifying press conference using the Nikon ME1 microphone.  To get it to work with the Fuji I had to use a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter on the socket but that was the only issue. The result was extremely good for streaming on the official FIA WEC Daily Motion feed.  I need to ...

On the Grid at Silverstone

Image
After a few days of sunshine at Silverstone, race day dawned overcast with a threat of rain but the typically fickle English weather certainly didn't dampen the spirits of the thousands of fans who flocked to Silverstone to watch the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Hermes - the top of the Tourist Trophy I was on the grid in my capacity as the FIA Media Delegate and also as escort for the beautiful Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy. I managed to get some shots on my Fujifilm X-T1 and X-Pro1 of the build up to the six hour race that saw a 1-2 for Toyota, with Anthony Davidson, Nicolas Lapierre and Sebastien Buemi adding their names onto the roll of honour on the base of the Tourist Trophy. Waiting for Mark Webber Fans crowd the pitlane to get close to the teams and drivers Hermes - the top of the Tourist Trophy Alex Wurz prepares for the start of the race  Porsche 919 Hybrid Ferrari 458 Italia The British Round ...

Silverstone Photo Call

Image
Part of the build up for the opening race of the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship season is the traditional driver group photograph on the steps of the Silverstone Wing on Friday morning.  This is done straight after drivers briefing and it is my job to organise this for 80+ drivers and 100+ media.  At least the weather played ball as well. The shots were taken on the Fujifilm XT-1 + Fujinon 18mm f2 lens.  The new XT-1 continues to impress me.  Because my current Lightroom 4 doesn't read the RAW files from the XT-1 (Lightroom 5 has been ordered) all the images taken this week are JPEGs straight out the camera with minimal adjustments.  The JPEG output from the XT-1 is astounding and I will report back on this when I start my review of my first week with the new Fuji.  So far the XT-1 is living up to the reputation it has been getting online and in the photographic press.   --------------------------------------------------------...

Silverstone Set Up Day

Image
Thursday at Silverstone was the day for completing all the checks and putting the final touches to the paddock ahead of this weekend's opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.   It gave me the opportunity to test out my new Fujifilm XT-1, which I bought on Tuesday and will compliment the X-Pro1 and X100 I already have in my camera bag.  Initial impressions are very, very good but I will do a proper round up of this camera in due course on this blog. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MA...

A Man With Four Top Class Awards

On Tuesday I had lunch at the Royal Automobile Club in London watching Allan McNish receiving the Segrave Trophy.  That is the World Endurance Championship Driver's trophy he is holding with the Tourist Trophy, 24 Hours of Le Mans winners trophy and the Segrave Trophy at the back. Quite an impressive haul of silverware in just one season.
