Austrian Room with a View

Image
I have arrived in Austria for this weekend's 3 Hours of the Red Bull Ring, round 3 of the European Le Mans Series which takes place on Saturday 20 July.  I checked into the small, family run hotel, the Gasthof Perschler just 6km from the track in the small hamlet of Rattenberg and this was the view from my bedroom window. Clouds and Mountains at Loch Buie

Image
With the Carter household in turmoil getting things packed for our move north to Dunbar in two weeks time and with me heading to Austria tomorrow for Round 3 of the European Le Mans Series at the Red Bull Ring, there hasn't been any time for getting out of the house for photography.  So today's image is one of the unpublished shots from our trip to the Isle of Mull at the end of May. This was taken from the shore of Loch Buie on the south of the island with the clouds breaking up over the mountain after a quick rain storm swept over just 30 minutes before.   That's the beauty of the West Coast of Scotland, the weather can change very quickly and at some times of the year you can get weather from all four seasons in the matter of hours. This shot was taken on the Nikon D800, with the Nikkor 17-35mm f2.8 AF-S.  Exposure was 1/400s @ f8 (ISO200) with a Lee 0.6 ND Soft Grad filter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

REVIEW: First Impressions of the X100S Video Function

Image
One of the things I do for the FIA WEC is video interviews with drivers that can be streamed on the website, on the WEC Facebook page and on the championships Daily Motion page.  I usually use the Nikon D800 for this but at Le Mans I filmed an interview with Aston Martin driver Bruno Senna in preparation for the next race in his home city of Sao Paulo in Brazil using the Fujifilm Finepix X100S. The Reasons to Visit Sao Paulo by fiawec The X100 has a video function that takes 10 minute videos in HD (720P).  The X100S also takes 10 minute videos but in full HD (1080P).  Unlike the Nikon D800, the Fujis cannot use an external microphone, which is a real shame.  However with the video with Bruno we went somewhere quiet so the internal stereo mics had the best chance to pick up the interview.   The results are pretty impressive and I wouldn't hesitate to use the Fuji for further video interviews in the future. -----------------------------------...

Summer Sprinkler

Image
Summer has arrived here in the UK at last and this has meant watering the garden so it doesn't dry out in the 30 degree heat.  The last few evenings I have been setting up the sprinkler to water the lawn and I saw the evening sunlight hitting the stream of water.  Sometimes the simplest, everyday situation can make an interesting image. Tree and Country Lane in Infrared

Image
Another image taken using the Infrared filter on the Fuji X100 of a tree and country lane near the Grantham Canal.  The exposure was 5 seconds @ f8 (ISO 400) and you can see the movement in the tree caused by the wind blowing the branches during the long exposure. Belmont Tower

Image
As we are moving out of Grantham in less than three weeks I have decided to visit some of my favourite photographic haunts over the next 14 days for one last time.   Yesterday morning I went for a walk up to Belmont Tower, which is situated on a hill near the village of Londonthorpe at the end of an avenue of trees.  At the other end of the avenue is Belton House and Belmont Tower is part of the estate which is now owned by the National Trust and so open to the public. This image was taken on the Fuji X100 with the WCL-X100 wide angle converter lens attached and using an 720nm infrared filter.  The exposure was 4 seconds @ f8 (ISO200) which meant I had to use the Manfrotto tripod to make sure everything was rock steady while the shutter was open. The second image was taken from a slightly different viewpoint with the X100 fitted with the WCL-X100 but this time with a Lee 10x ND filter (big stopper) and a Lee 0.6 Soft ND Grad. This gave an exposure o...

Giant Daisy

Image
Taking a short walk by the Grantham Canal I came across a rape seed field that had started to lose it's yellow flowers.  But in the corner of the field there was a clump of giant daisies growing and I headed over the capture the flowers with my Fuji X100.  I did several images in Black and White rather than the usual colour pictures.   All images taken on Fujifilm Finepix X100 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE NEW GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION If you like what y...
