La Forêt Domaniale de Perseigne

Image
On my excursion north of Le Mans I headed out into La Forêt Domaniale de Perseigne, a large forest area 40km north of the city.   With the sun shining through the canopy the sun was lighting up parts of the trees and the ground cover and provided me with ample opportunity to shoot images of sunlit elements of the forest. For lovers of nature, the forest is home to many animal species (deer, squirrels, boar...), they can observe at leisure. Personia was the first name given to the forest of Perseigne by Caesar's Legions. Royal forest until 1791, it became property of the State. The massif extends today more than 5,000 acres, offering a wide variety of passages through the trees to the delight of hikers. Le Mans Day One

Image
Yesterday was the first day of the week long build up to the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans with thousands of fans packing the Place du la Republique for the scrutineering and administration checks.  The teams push their cars through the technical checks while the drivers take part in media interviews, have their helmets and overalls checked before heading to the main stage for interviews in front of the fans. Today scrutineering continues for the rest of the entries for the 90th anniversary 24 Heures du Mans which begins on Saturday. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE NEW GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

French Poppy Field

Image
While exploring the countryside north of Le Mans I came across this poppy field near the small town of Bourg-Le-Roi so I had to stop and set up the tripod. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE NEW GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION If you like what you see on this blog please visit our  Facebook  page and click 'like' MORE IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED ON  FLICKR  AND ON OUR  WEBSITE

Beaumont Sur Sarthe

Image
The first of the ten days I will be spending in Le Mans working on the famous 24 Hour race was a slow one as far as work was concerned so I decided to do a bit of exploring.  I headed north out of the city and into the countryside.  One of the places I passed through was the small town of Beaumont sur Sarthe with it's beautiful medieval architecture and old bridge spanning the Sarthe river. I stopped in the small square outside the Hotel de Ville and walked back over the modern bridge to get a shot of the town and the river.  Using the Lee 10x ND filter and the tripod I took this 30 second exposure of the scene below.   Here are some other shots of the town square and of the river from the old bridge using the Fuji X100.  CLICK HERE for more on Beaumont sur Sarthe. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS B...

A House in an Idyllic Location

Image
On our many trips to the Isle of Mull we often think about owning a house on the island.  While we are travelling around Mull we sometimes stop to take in the view and sometimes someone has built a house to take advantage of the beautiful scenery that we've stopped to admire. This house below Aros Castle at the western end of Salen Bay is a case in point.  The white washed house sits on the shoreline at the end of a private drive with views over Salen Bay looking across the Sound of Mull to the mainland. It even has a beach on its doorstep.  How much it is worth is anyone's guess, but I like to dream that one day we could own a house like that in such an idyllic location. Ship Passing Through the Sound of Mull

Image
This was the scene two weeks ago when I was travelling down to Salen from Tobermory to photograph the derelict trawlers early in the morning.  I saw a survey vessel heading back towards Oban through the Sound of Mull so I pulled the car over to take some shots of the scene with the Nikon D800 and Sigma 50-500mm telephoto.  On the left of the picture is the Scottish mainland and on the right is Mull. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE NEW GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION If...

Standing Stones at Dervaig

Image
On a very sunny morning after visiting the derelict trawlers at Salen (blog here ) I decided to head over to the Cnoc Fada standing stones at Dervaig to do another photographic visit. I first visited these stones last Easter during an Islandscape Photography workshop but on that occasion the light was a little flat. On the morning in question the sun was coming up over the hills and I knew the light in the clearing of trees where the stones were situated would be very different than it was 13 months before (blog here ). When I arrived I was proven to be correct with the sunlight streaming through the pines and hitting the stones to give a dappled effect. Here are the final images from my second photographic visit to the standing stones at Dervaig.
