Bridge Over the River Tummel

Image
On Friday I spent the day in the Highlands photographing the autumn colours along the River Tummel. While shooting from the footbridge over the river near Pitlochry I decided to take a few images using the Samyang 8mm Fisheye on the Fujifilm X-Pro2.  This 180 degree field of view lens is very good at keeping distortions under control but sometimes I like to take images that enhance the fisheye look of the lens. The top image is using the bridge handrails as a lead in line to the copse of trees at the end, while the A9 road bridge spanning the river provides a nice frame for the river and the trees, with the fisheye effect adding a curve to the bridge that was actually right above my head when I took the image. Picture of the Week: Say a Prayer

Image
While visiting the Town God Temple in Zhujiajiao I spotted this wooden rack in one of the corners of the temple with lots of red ribbon prayers or wishes tied to it.  The sunlight was filtering between the building and catching the red ribbons highlighting one prayer. I have no idea what the prayer says but perhaps the fact it was hit by the sunlight means that it will be granted by the Chinese gods.  A nice thought! Colourful Ripples

Image
When out shooting landscapes I always keep one eye open for an image that is quite abstract, almost like a painting, with the light and colour producing something that is different and thought provoking. This shot of a fishing boat in the evening sunshine is a good example.  The strong sunlight coming from the right produced some strong light with the whites, browns and golds of the boat's hull reflected in the water of the harbour.   A strong breeze meant the water wasn't still and the colours of the hull have been mixed up in the blues and blacks of the sea water to give a pleasing effect. I decided to crop the final image square to improve the composition by balancing the image with 50% of the hull and 50% of the reflection in the water. From The Archives: Tobermory

Image
Here is another image from the MacLean Photographic archives, this time a shot of Tobermory harbour from our last trip to the Isle of Mull in May 2013. We are regular visitors to the Isle of Mull but since we moved to Dunbar in August 2013 we haven't had the opportunity to visit the island, which is something that will need to be remedied in 2015 and was the reason I was searching through my many archive images of Mull. This image was taken late evening and is just typical of the light that can be found on Mull.  The sky had been grey and lifeless but a change in the weather allowed the sun to peep through and add a bit of colour to the scene, which I assisted by using a grad filter on the camera. Tobermory Harbour front is one of the most photographed scenes in Scotland with the colourful houses - the Mishnish Hotel had been repainted back to yellow from a dark grey over the previous winter - and boats moored up, though on this particular day the waterfront was pretty ...

Autumn Colours

Image
With the strong winds in this part of Scotland I have to admit I am surprised that there are still plenty of leaves clinging to the branches of the trees near Tyninghame beach. The colours that are abundant are gold, brown and yellow but not a lot of red this year.  I decided to make Mother Natures colourful display the subject of today's blog.  All images taken on a Fujifilm X-Pro1 and 18mm f2 or 60mm f2.4 lens. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY PURP...
