Sunset over the Persian Gulf

Image
The Kingdom of Bahrain is a desert state and it comes as no surprise that the sun tends to shine.  So you would expect some great sunsets but the best late evening, or early morning, displays happen when there are some clouds in the sky to bounce the light around.   The shot below was taken on Monday evening and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.  The resulting sunset was 'OK' but nothing to get excited about. However this evening's sunset was a good one as there was some cloud cover as can be seen in the shot at the top of the page.  The result was a beautiful sunburst through the clouds. Both images were taken on the Fujifilm X-T1 and the Fujinon XF50-140mm f2.8 lens. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. ------------------...

Sunrise

Image
The promise of a nice sunrise had me out of bed and heading down to Dunbar harbour at 5:30am to catch the sun up at 6:15am.  I certainly wasn't disappointed as I set up the X-Pro1 and 55-200mm lens facing East across East Beach. These three shots were taken within 3 minutes of each other and after 10 minutes the sun was high above the horizon and too bright to take anymore images. Tomorrow morning there will be a partial solar eclipse across the UK as the moon's orbit takes it across the face of the sun, starting around 8:30am.  Here's hoping that we get clear skies over Dunbar tomorrow. All images taken on a Fujifilm X-Pro1 + Fujinon XF55-200mm f3.5/4.8 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. -----------------------------------------...

A Weekend on Harris and Lewis

Image
This weekend we are in the Outer Hebrides exploring the isle of Harris and Lewis. We arrived on the Calmac ferry from Uig on the Isle of Skye, arriving two hours later in Tarbet on Harris. The sun was shining and the temperature was warm so we headed out to the beach at Huisinish. We were greeted by a view of turquoise sea and white sand. A walk around the headland presented us more vistas of the same blue seas, mountains and white sand, the scene could've be straight out of a Visit Scotland travel brochure. We then headed up to Stornaway, the capital of Lewis and to our accomodation at Broad Bay House. Our room has a great view over the bay with another white sandy beach a short walk away. More from our trip the Outer Hebrides on the blog tomorrow. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts y...

Low Newton by the Sea, Northumberland

Image
One of the places we visited on our two day whistle stop tour of the Scottish Borders was to Low Newton in Northumberland.  A beautiful sunny, if cold, February day saw us walking for miles across the golden sands and we weren't the only visitors as dog walkers, joggers, cyclists and families joined us.  However with miles and miles of golden sandy beach it didn't feel crowded. Low Newton by the Sea Situated at the end of a small road not far off the A1 Great North road, Low Newton by the Sea is one of the most picturesque villages on The Northumberland Coast. The small 18th century fishing village attracts visitors all year round with its beautiful sandy beach with views across the bay to Dunstanburgh Castle. Owned by The National Trust, the village consists of an open-ended square of cream-washed cottages set around a green and looking out to sea across the beach of Newton Haven. The hub of the village is The Ship Inn (originally known as the Smack Inn...
