Sports Photography as a Spectator Part 9: Horse Racing

Image
The latest edition of shooting sport from the spectator areas is on horse racing for Fujifilm.   I attended the first jump meeting of the 2017/18 season at Musselburgh Racecourse on Wednesday 8th November to shoot the latest feature and came away with a nice selection of images for the Fujifilm website. I shot the event using the Fujifilm X-T2 and Fujifilm X-Pro2 fitted with the XF100-400mm and XF50-140mm f2.8 zooms plus I also used the XF16mm f1.4 prime as well. Autograss High Speed Action

Image
On Saturday I went along to the Central Scotland Autograss Club event at Avonbridge to shoot the next feature in the series of Shooting Sport as a Spectator for Fujifilm UK and also shoot a series of images for an upcoming feature in a national newspaper. Because I was fulfilling two roles I signed on as media to shoot the newspaper images but shot all of the pictures and video I needed for the Fujifilm feature from the spectator areas.   However I did shoot a number of images from the inside of the track thanks to the media access granted by the club. Here are some action images taken from the inside of the oval track. All of the images were shot on a Fujifilm X-T2 with the exception of the main image at the top of the page, which was shot on an X-Pro2 and XF16-55mm f2.8 lens.  The two X-T2 bodies were fitted with an XF50-140mm f2.8 and a XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 zoom lens. Shooting Sport as a Spectator Part 6: Eventing

Image
Fujifilm UK have published the sixth part of the twelve part series about Shooting Sport as a Spectator today.  This feature was on Eventing, an equestrian sport that combines Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country. I traveled to an event at Forgandenny in Perthshire earlier this month to get some shots from the event held there.  I found that the restrictions were at an absolute minimum and access for photographers is excellent as long as you respect the course and the officials. I shot the above video on the Fujifilm X-T2 and on the GoPro Hero 5 Black and Hero 5 Session. The full feature is available to view on the Fujifilm website HERE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this b...

Aqua Cross

Image
Some more edits from the P1 PowerStock event in Greenock a couple of weeks ago.  While I concentrated on the powerboats at the event as they were the main focus for the Fujifilm X-Treme project, I took the time to get some shots of the Aqua Cross competitors who were out on the water just before the first P1 SuperStock race. This was a good test run to see what I could get from the back of the bouncing RIB that I was shooting from and adjust my shooting position and exposure before the main event. I got my eye in quite quickly and was able to come away with some nice shots of the jet skiers racing on the Clyde. All action shots were taken on the Fujifilm X-T2 and XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 lens from the back of a RIB at the side of the course. Industry Pro Wakeboard Tour at Foxlake Outdoor Festival

Image
Fujifilm X-T2 + XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 - 1/1000s @ f5.6 ISO400 Today we went along to the F oxlake Adventures Outdoor Festival which was a great day of action and fun.  The main part of the day was the Industry Pro Wakeboard Tour , with Foxlakes hosting the opening round of the four stop tour for Pro Wakeboarders. I went along to Foxlakes with my family and attended as a spectator but I couldn't resist taking along the X-T2 and XF100-400mm to capture a few action shots. Fujifilm X-T2 + XF35mm f1.4 - 1/6400s @ f1.4 ISO100 Like the Water Ski Trick event I attended a few weeks ago, the riders in this competition also have to perform as series of tricks for the judges.   However in this competition two riders going head to head to see which one will progress to the next round, with eventually two riders left in the final.
