X-T1 Timelapse Video: Dunbar's East Beach

Image
This is the third timelapse video of the project I am working on in and around my home in Dunbar.  This is East Beach, the main beach in the town.  The video was taken from three locations around the bay, capturing 100 images at 5 second intervals from each of the three areas.  The 300+ images were then put together using Windows Live Movie Maker to produce the finished video. The images were loaded into Movie Maker and each image was given a display time of just 0.1 seconds, giving a frame rate of 10 frames per second.   The music is rights free and was downloaded from  www.freemusicarchive.org .  The track is  Cylinder 5  by Chris Zabriskie, the same composer I used for the Belhaven Bridge Timelapse Video HERE .  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the ...

The Views from Winterfield Golf Club

Image
To say the past ten days have been hectic would be an understatement.  The normal manic build up to Christmas has been compounded by our decision to purchase a new house in Dunbar and move in so we can spend the festive period in our own home rather than in rented accommodation.   After a week of driving a truck from England to Scotland an back again, moving furniture from two locations and humping box after box (as well as concluding the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship season), yesterday I felt the need to go for a short walk with the Nikon D800 near to our new abode in Dunbar. The Clubhouse at Winterfield Golf Club I haven't picked up the D800 since I returned from Japan in October mainly due to the fact that I have the Fujifilm X-Pro1 system to use now and the bulky Nikon has not been the camera of choice for my work of late.  But I needed to remind myself that while the DSLR system is a more considered choice it is still one of the best pro cameras ...

Review: Tyningham Beach with the Fujinon 18mm f2

Image
I recently acquired the Fujifilm X-Pro1 and a quartet of prime lenses.  Of these four - 14mm f2.8, 18mm f2, 35mm f1.4 and 60mm f2.4 macro - I thought the moderately wide 18mm f2 (27mm in full frame terms) would be the lens that would stay in the camera bag the most and the 14mm (21mm equivalent) would be the wide angle lens of choice with this camera. However the reality is this is the lens I have actually taken more shots on since getting the X-Pro1.  I think the reason for this is the 14mm is physically bigger - about twice the size of the 18mm - and because of the extra angle of coverage, it is a more considered choice when out and about.   The 14mm is also an F2.8 and one stop slower than the 18mm which is an f2. Not so much of a problem on a sunny day but in low light conditions without a tripod than one stop could make all the difference. Today was a good example when we visited Tyningham Beach for a walk.  This wasn't a photographic trip,...

Photos from a Mobile Phone Camera - Who'd Have Thought it?

Image
I've always considered mobile phone cameras to be pretty good and adequate if my Nikon or Fuji have been left behind. This was the case this evening when walking on the beach near Barns Ness lighthouse this evening with my wife Julie.  I decided to leave the Fuji X100 back at home to give her a break from photography. However the scene in the sky above the beach had me cursing that decision and my only option was to get the Samsung Galaxy S3 out of my pocket. Well the results were pretty good straight off the memory card and once I had put them through PSE11 I am pleased to share them here. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------...

Lone Tree on an Austrian Hillside

Image
Austria is such a beautiful country, it reminds me of Scotland with it's mountains and tree lined hillsides.  The weather for our visit to the Styrian Alps has been glorious with 30 degree temperatures and blue skies. I spotted this tree on the hill inside the Red Bull Ring circuit with a stone religious icon in the shade underneath.  The hill was covered in wild flowers so, after getting a shot of the icon on top of the hill, I decided to move down the slope to get an shot looking up with the tree silhouetted against the blue sky and white clouds. The final result is quite pleasing and I also did a mono version in high contrast but this image works best in colour with the punchy colours.  What do you think?
