2014 Review: Street Photography

Image
For many photographers, myself included, find Street photography the most difficult genre to get right.  In 2014 I had several opportunities to practice this year, in London, Sao Paulo and Tokyo. In London last June I was in Oxford Street when I came across a protest march down Regents Street with 50,000 people demonstrating against government cuts.  I stopped to get some images of the march as it passed.  More Images  HERE On Easter Monday Dunbar hosted the John Muir Festival to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Dunbar's famous son who became the founding father of the National Parks in the USA.  There was plenty of opportunities to grab some faces in the crowd during the festivities HERE  and HERE The race track is also a good place for people images, especially during the pitlane walkabout.  The first image below was taken during the European Le Mans Series event at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.  The secon...

2014 Review: Travel

Image
This year we've traveled to some familiar places as well as a couple for the first time.  Mostly the trips have been for the FIA World Endurance Championship or the European Le Mans Series but we also too personal trips to Skye and the Outer Hebrides and also to Lake Como in Italy. PARIS The first trips of the year were to Paris for regular meetings at the main offices of Le Mans Endurance Management and the launch of the 2014 championship.  This gave me many opportunities to photograph the French capital, sometimes during the day but mainly at night. PARIS 1 :   PARIS 2 : PARIS 3 : PARIS 4 : PARIS 5 MARSEILLES The next trip of note was for the official tests for the launch of the ELMS and WEC at the Circuit Paul Ricard in the South of France.  The was one day where we were able to take a trip to La Ciotat and to the harbour front in Marseilles.   LA CIOTAT : MARSEILLES BRUSSELS In April we visited the Autoworld Museum in the centre o...

Every Cloud Has A Silver Lining

Image
Yesterday afternoon I had a very long trip to the airport for my flight home from Brazil as the notorious Sao Paulo traffic became its usual gridlock.  A city of over 20 million people and everyone seems to own a car and they all use them at the same time.  The result is no one is going anywhere fast. However this was taken into account for our trip out to the airport and what would normally be a 30 minute trip of the roads were clear turned into a two hour slog. I always like to think that there is usually a silver lining to most clouds and on this trip I soon spotted this particular one.  In an attempt to avoid some of the traffic jams, our driver took us through the centre of Sao Paulo.  This meant we got to see some new things on the journey and so to pass the time I got the X-T1 and the 56mm f1.2 out of the bag and took a few images of the streets as we slowly made progress through the heavy traffic. Shooting out of a bus window is not ideal but l...

Samba

Image
Brazilians do a lot of things well but two of the best are samba and partying!  Last night we held the FIA World Endurance Championship Awards Ceremony at Casa Fasano in Sao Paulo and it was a celebration of the 2014 season that ended on Sunday. The speeches were kept to a minimum with several people given special awards on the night (news here).  This left more time for the party and one of the highlights of the evening were the samba dancers and the drummers.  The whole place rocked and there were plenty of people queuing up to have a dance with the beautiful samba dancers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...
