The Colours of Dunbar Harbour

Image
A short walk around Cromwell Harbour earlier this week netted me some great colour and reflection shots.   The boats are now being put back into the water after they were lifted out for the winter and some have received a lick of paint to provide a colourful backdrop. Cromwell Harbour is the oldest of the two Dunbar harbours and is named after Oliver Cromwell who enhanced the anchorage at Dunbar to use as a base of operations during his invasion of Scotland in the 17th Century. I used the Fujifilm X-Pro2 with the XF100-400mm to isolate parts of the colourful scene or I fitted the 18mm f2 lens to give an overall shot of the harbour and the town of Dunbar behind. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. ...

Dunbar Harbour Reflections

Image
Dunbar Harbour is a beautiful place to sit and watch the world go by, especially the fishing and pleasure boats that use the facilities that Dunbar has to offer.   As a working port, Dunbar is home to a few fishing vessels of various sizes and the reflections in the water, especially on a foggy day which tend to mute the bold colours, provide some great photographic opportunities. Walking along the harbour wall I used the pulling power of the Fujinon 55-200mm zoom to isolate some of the reflections in the water and ropes / paintwork of some of the vessels.   All images taken on a Fujifilm X-T1 + Fujinon XF55-200mm f3.5/4.8R OIS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. ---------------------------------------------------...

Reflections

Today is my 50th birthday, a milestone that I didn't really want to celebrate because when you say 50 years or, even worse, a half century, it made me feel old.   BUT 50 is just a number and the title of this blog is not about the reflection of the sun in the sand on the beach at Belhaven Bay but a reflection on the positives in the 50 years of my life so far.   I have done and seen a lot up til now and I intend to do a lot more.   I was given the best start in life by my Mum and Dad, who I don't say 'thank you' often enough to but I appreciate and love them very much.  Also to my grandparents who were a big part of my life, especially my Nan, who is still with us and, along with my grandfather, introduced me to Scotland when I was 8 and I fell in love with the country that I am lucky enough to call home.  I married Julie, my best friend and soul mate, 28 years ago and we were joined 16 years ago by our beautiful daughter Kate.  I have a youn...

Patterns in the Sand

Image
The effect of light and water is something I love capturing with my camera.  This was the beach at Seacliff on Sunday morning just after sunrise.  The wet sand has reflected the rising sun while the dry sand and rocks produce some different tones and patterns.  This image was captured on the Fuji X-Pro1 and 55-200mm lens. The second picture was taken on the X-Pro1 and the 18mm f2 to give a different perspective of the beach at sunrise. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CANNOT BE US...

Abstract Images

Image
When presented with a well hackneyed scene, such as the Trocadero and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, I try to find a different way to show the same area.  This sometimes leads to me going out on a limb and  looking for abstract images in the area.  The one thing about shooting the Eiffel Tower at night is the colours of the lights reflected in different surfaces and here are some shots I took on Wednesday night last week. The streets are cobbled around the Trocadero and the wet stones reflect the car headlights and the glow from the Eiffel Tower Reflections in the fountains in the Jardin du Trocadero Reflection in the water at the base of the Jardin du Trocadero Reflection in a puddle Images taken on a Fujifilm X-Pro1 and either a Fujinon 14mm f2.8 or Fujinon 55-200 f3.5/4.8 lens.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE...

Tobermory Harbour

Image
Continuing to look forward to our next trip to the Isle of Mull in less than six weeks time I went through the images from our previous five trips to Mull and discovered this shot from the early morning excursion in December 2011 down to the harbour in Tobermory. Nikon D90 - Sigma 10-20mm - 1/8s @ f8 - ISO100 - Tripod I converted the image using Silver Efex Pro2 and completed the transformation with a bit of dodging and burning on the key points of the picture.  I'm very happy with the result. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION If you like what you see on this blog please visit our  Facebook  page and click 'like' MORE IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED ON  FLICKR  AND ON OUR  WEBSITE

Shiny New Buildings in More London Place

Image
A couple of days ago I posted some pictures of The Shard, the tallest building in the European Union and the second tallest in Europe.  There is a lot of new buildings going up in around the London Bridge / Tower Bridge area with a group of shiny new offices in what is now called More London Place. Fujifilm X100 - 19mm f2 - 1/1250 @ f4 - ISO400 More London Place is new the Greater London Council offices and near to Tower Bridge and consists of office buildings, apartments, cafes and shops.  The glass sides and strange architecture provided plenty of photo opportunities.
