CAPTURE NEW HORIZONS

After the stop at the waterfall at the base of  Buachaille Etive Mor I got back in the car and drove a few miles into Glen Coe and stopped on the other side of the mountain where a small white painted cottage sits on the edge of the river. The clouds that had shrouded the top of the mountain had started to lift and I walked down to the river an set up the tripod to get some images of the scene before me. I also pointed the camera up stream and down the glen towards the mountains further along the A82.  The sunlight was streaming through the clouds creating light patches on the mountain side and in the clouds above. Fujifilm X-T2 +XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 + 1.4x converter - 1/125 @ f8 ISO1600 (zoom 560mm) One of the highlights of the two day winter photo trip into the Highlands of Scotland was the number of stags we saw and photographed.  Red Deer  (Cervus elaphus) roam the Highlands of Scotland but while I have seen them further south, I hadn't expected to see them in such abundance on this trip. We had seen and photographed a young stag on the roadside as we were leaving Applecross on Friday evening and I was pretty pleased with the results in such poor light, but little did I know we were going have more opportunities on the second day of our trip. The Quinag Ridge  from Loch a Chairn Bhain with Sail Gharbh on left and Sail Ghorm on right Fujifilm X-T2 + XF16-55mm f2.8 - 60s @ f18 ISO200 (zoom16mm) - Point A on the map below After leaving Loch Assynt we headed north to Kylesku and parking up on the northside of the bridge spanning Loch a Chairn Bhain.  Looking west across the water the clouds were swirling around the Quinag ridge, a group of three mountain peak.  Two were visible from our vantage point, Sail Ghorm at 776m and Sail Gharbh slightly higher at 808m. We patiently waited for the clouds to break and the 1-minute exposure used to capture the image at the top of the page gives a sense of the dramatic light that was unfolding in front of us.
