Monument National des Sous Mariniers, Toulon
Near the Tour Royale Museum at the Pointe de la Mitre in Toulon is the national memorial to the 1667 submariners killed on active duty serving in the French Navy. The memorial was inaugurated on the 28 November 2009 by M. Hubert Falco, Secretary of STate for Defence and Veterans. A submarine's conning tower rises 6.5 metres from the ground and in front is a statue of a woman and child, representing the families who were left to grieve.
