Ten Favourite Shots of 2015: No3 Life Boat

Image
One of the high lights of 2015 for me was the invitation to take a trip out on the Dunbar lifeboat.  I have a great admiration for the men and women who risk their lives for others who get into trouble in and around the coast of the UK.  They are all volunteers and the job that they do is fantastic. I joined Gary Fairbairn, the Coxswain of the  RNLB  John Neville Taylor , and the rest of the crew for a trip out around Bass Rock and back to the lifeboat mooring at Torness. Seeing how the crew works up close was a privilege and I am proud to support the work of the RNLI. This shot of the  John Neville Taylor was taken at the Dunbar Lifeboat day in the summer and is framed by the walls of Dunbar Castle at the approach to the harbour entrance. Happy memories and an experience I hope I will be invited to repeat at some point. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEA...

Dunbar Lifeboat Day

Image
Today was the Dunbar Lifeboat Day, a gala down at the harbour where everyone turns out to show their support for the lifeboat crew.  These brave men and women risk their lives to save others in distress and they are all volunteers. The Dunbar Lifeboat Day is a mixture of fundraising and town fete and the highlight of the day was an rescue exercise just off the harbour with a Royal Navy Sea King Mk5 Search and Rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet, near Prestwick. Lifeboats have been launching from Dunbar Harbour for over 200 years and the crews have been honoured with 12 awards for gallantry. Today, the station operates two lifeboats – an inshore D class and an all-weather Trent class lifeboat.   CLICK HERE for more information on Dunbar Lifeboat Station. The day started with the traditional parade down the High Street to the Victoria Harbour where the Lifeboat was launched to start the Lifeboat Day.   As well as stalls and a funfair there were ...

Lifeboat Day in Dunbar

Image
Today was the Lifeboat Day in Dunbar and thousands of people turned out to support the RNLI.   The day kicked off with a parade through the town and down to the harbour and then the festivities began with demonstrations, music and food. I also had the opportunity to climb to the top of Dunbar Castle, which is normally out of bounds to the general public.  I used the high vantage point to take some panoramic images of Dunbar and also grab some shots of the Kittiwake colony that nest in the castle walls, many of the nest now with chicks. Here are some of the shots from today's Lifeboat Day. All images taken on a Fujifilm X-T1 and X-Pro1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. -------------------------------------------...
