Five X Photographers at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Image
Yesterday morning the five Fujifilm ambassadors who are covering the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans gathered in the pitlane for a quick picture. As well as using the X-T2 and XF Fujinon lenses to capture this year's high profile event, four of the X-Photographers are also using the new medium format GFX system. Left to Right - Jeff Carter (UK), Dirk Bogaerts (BEL), John Rourke (UK), Jacky Ley (FRA), Andrew Hall (AUS). Official Test for 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans

Image
Fujifilm X-T2 + XF10-24mm f4 - 1/20 @f20 ISO100 This weekend was the official test day in advance of the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans on the 17/18 June.   All 60 cars taking part in the big race attended the test on Sunday 4 June, including all of the competitors in the FIA World Endurance Championship, for whom this is round 3 of the nine race world championship.  It is also the only race that isn't 6-hours in duration and as such the 24 Hours of Le Mas is worth double championship points, making all the more vital to do well in a few weeks time. Fujifilm X-T2 + XF100-400mm f4.5/5.6 - 1/200 @f8 ISO100 In my role as the FIA Media Delegate and the Photo Delegate for the event I went trackside during the morning session and then spent an hour in the pitlane in the afternoon. Trackside I used the Fujifilm X-T2 with the XF100-400mm lens and another X-T2 fitted with the XF50-140mm f2.8.  I took shots of the cars on track but also took the opportunit...

REVIEW: In a Tight Spot? Samyang 8mm to the Rescue!

Image
About eight months ago I decided to buy the diminutive Samyang 8mm f2.8 fisheye for the annual trip to Le Mans.  This lens is small and light and has a field of view of 180 degrees.  It is a manual focus lens but focusing only starts at one metre so I tend to leave the focus ring on infinity, stop down to f5.6 or f8 and not worry about it. This little lens allows me to get pictures from some very tight places or take an extreme wide view that you can't normally get, even with the Fujinon 10-24mm set at 10mm. Now if you want a wider view some photographers will say 'take a few steps backwards and then shoot'.  But there are some situations where you can't do that. The shot at the top of the page is a good example.  2016 European Le Mans Series LMP3 Drivers Champion Alex Brundle was getting strapped into the Ligier-Nissan for the final race of the season at Estoril in Portugal.  I took the shot through the other door into the cockpit.  The working a...

Fujifilm X-T2 at Le Mans Classic

Image
On Thursday and Friday last week I had the privilege of being part of the European launch of the brand new Fujifilm X-T2 in Paris and at the Le Mans Classic.  Fujifilm invited 200 guests from all over Europe to travel to Paris for the official launch of the camera with a press conference and then a chance to have a 'hands on' session with the X-T2 over a buffet and a few drinks. The press conference included a Q&A session with fellow X Photographer John Rourke with Fujifilm's Marketing Manager Andreas Georghiades.    It was also great to see a set of images on display in the room which included my shot of Danny Watts sitting in the Strakka Racing Gibson in the Le Mans Pitlane in the pouring rain.  A good example of how good the weather proofing is on the camera. After the formal part of the evening John, myself and several other X Photographers headed by bus to Le Mans so we were on site for the second day of the event where we would be hosting ...
