VIDEO: Innerwick Castle Promo Video

Image
This is the second of the new MacLean Photographic Workshop promotional videos that I have produced and posted on to the VIMEO page.  This one was shot on a very short visit to Innerwick Castle earlier in the week.  Due to the strong winds I decided to keep the flight with the DJI Mavic Pro short and I will go back in the New Year to shoot a longer sequence. Woodland Exploration Workshop

Image
Today I hosted a MacLean Photographic Woodland Exploration workshop here in East Lothian and after a week of torrential rain and howling winds the weather gods decided to smile on me and abate for the day. This morning was spent up at Innerwick Castle, exploring the woodland around the old ruin.  With bright sunlight filtering through the trees we were able to shoot some of the ferns and fungi that were spotlit by the natural light piercing the canopy of leaves above our heads. After a spot of lunch we headed out to Tyningham for a walk through the woods and along the shoreline, capturing the flowers and trees in this wonderful natural woodland setting. If you are interested in joining me on a workshop here in East Lothian you will find details on the MacLean Photographic website HERE .   Remember if you don't find a suitable date you can contact me at tours@macleanphotographic.co.uk to see if we can find a more suitable date for your schedule. Wildflowers at Innerwick Castle

Image
This afternoon we went for a walk up at the Thornton Glen Nature Reserve near Innerwick, which also includes the ruins of Innerwick Castle. At this time of year the woods are a blaze of colours as the wild flowers bloom in the spring sunshine.  The banks leading down to the burn are covered in white flowers of the wild garlic, and there are also small pockets of bluebells but not was many as in previous years. The sunshine was coming down through the tree tops, with the branches creating shafts of light that highlighted some of the flowers. I used the Fujifilm GFX and the 120mm f4 macro lens to photograph some of the flowers in details and also used the GF32-64mm f4 zoom to get a wider view. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support...

ONE LENS CHALLENGE: Innerwick Castle with the Fujinon 90mm lens

Image
Last weekend I decided to set myself another one lens challenge during the trip out to Innerwick Castle.  The lens I decided to use was the Fujinon XF90mmR LM WR, which I have had on test from Fujifilm for the past two weeks.   Now using a 90mm telephoto was going to prove to be a challenge as the area around the castle ruins is quite tight.  On the north side is the woods and the path that leads to the ruins. On the south side is open ground but is quite overgrown and the access is not easy.  while to the east is Thornton Glen, with a 20 metre drop to the Burn below. Anyway I am always up for a challenge and if it isn't easy then so much the better! So I started to look for images that would suit the 135mm equivalent focal length of this brand new Fujinon lens. The obvious starting point was to take some shots of the castle ruins through the trees from the pathway that leads up to the castle.  I took a few images before moving to some close up deta...
