2013 Review: September

Image
September was another busy month for travel. Arriving back in the UK from Brazil at the start of the month we were soon off again to Budapest in Hungary, Austin in Texas and Le Castellet on the Cote d'Azure in France. Staying in the centre of Budapest enabled me to take an evening walk out to the Danube with the X100 and a tripod to get a long exposure shot of the traffic crossing the Liberty Bridge.  This is my favourite shot from September. Also in September, when I was at home, I spent some more time exploring our new home in East Lothian; finding more and more photographic opportunities at every turn.  Also there was one last trip to Grantham to clear the old house before it was finally sold. X100 Review: Low Light Test in Budapest

Image
One of the many things that impresses me about the small but perfectly formed Fujifilm Finepix X100 Black is the low light ability of the sensor.  For a crop framed camera the way the camera handles high ISO settings is amazing and, in my opinion, is on a par with Nikon's full frame cameras, which are renowned for their low light abilities. Take these shots taken on Friday night in Budapest around midnight.  This little church was lit by street lights and the statue of the Virgin Mary on top of the colomn was in deep shadow.  Despite these limitations I was able to get usable shots without the use of a tripod and handholding the X100.  The camera was set to 3200ISO and the Fujinon lens w as wide open at f2.  The results, while not perfect, are very usable and I am very happy with the images. Hungarian Bronze Policeman

Image
While out and about in Budapest we came across this statue of a lifesize Hungarian 19th century or early 20th century policeman.  These type of statues provoke a sense of humour and, of course, we had to partake of a little fun.   Here is our ELMS Race Director Eduardo Freitas posing with the statue, I think it could be a long lost Hungarian relation. Liberty Bridge in Budapest

Image
A walk around Budapest yesterday evening saw us walking down towards the bridges on the River Danube.  The bridge that caught my eye was the Szabadság híd or Liberty Bridge which was originally called the Franz Josef bridge after the emporer who opened the crossing from Buda to Pest in1896 after two years of construction. St Stephen's Basilica, Budapest

Image
Last night we went down into central Budapest for dinner, just around the corner from the beautiful St Stephen's cathedral.  We are in the Hungarian capital for the fourth round of the European Le Mans Series and we had a small window of opportunity to grab some images.  We hope to get some pictures for this beautiful city this evening.
