A Walk in the Woods with the X100T

Image
After two weeks away in Japan and Portugal today was the first opportunity I have had to visit one of my favourite places near to my home in Scotland.   With autumn in full swing we decided to go for a walk in the woods near Tyningham beach and with the sun shining through the trees there was some great photographic opportunities to be had.  I decided not to go loaded down with lots of photographic gear and took only the Fujifilm X100T in my pocket.  Going small and light meant I had to think creatively about what I was going to photograph but with the X100T that isn't such a hard thing to do. With the sunlight coming down through the trees, there were plants and leaves being highlighted by the shafts of light so I switched the X100T to macro mode to get in close with the Fujinon 23mm f2 lens.  This sharp lens picked up all the detail in the backlit leaves and the forest floor. All images taken on the Fujifilm X100T with its fixed 23m...

More Mushroom Macro

Image
This is the time of year for mushrooms, toadstools and other fungi to be seen in woodland in and around East Lothian.  I posted some pictures on the 25 August of some large Parasol Mushrooms that we spotted in the grass out at Tyningham.  However these shots were taken a lot closer to home, in fact in the back garden! Using the Fujifilm X-T1 and either the 60mm f2.4 macro or 10-24mm wide angle zoom I set about getting some images of these mushrooms in the grass.  For some of the shots I used the extension tubes to increase the magnification of the 60mm macro.  I also used the Fujifilm EF20 flash on a remote extension cord to put some light into the dark areas under the mushroom cap. As well as getting an overall view of the clump of mushrooms I also tried to show the incredible texture and colour of the cap. All of the images are as they were shot, none have been cropped in post production to increase the magnification further. The only problem is I ...

Fungi Macro

Some more images from our recent walk out on the Tyningham Estate. Near to Link Woods we came across a patch of large mushrooms growing in the grass.   The top of the mushroom was 15cm across and stood about 20cm off the ground.  There were several smaller 'puffball' mushrooms in the grass on the bank, which were smaller versions of the large open mushroom.   These are a type of Parasol Mushroom, Macrolepiota Procera, and these specimens were a good size for this type of mushroom.  According to the reference book they are also edible but I don't think I will be preparing a fry up, just in case. Using the X-Pro1 and the 14mm and 60mm macro lenses I captured the following set of images. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a smal...

Tyningham Fungi

Image
While walking down to the beach at Ravenheugh Sands I spotted some old trees with some unusual fungi growing from the trunk.  Using the 18mm f2 and 55-200 f3.5/f4.8 lenses on the Fuji X-Pro1 I set about photographing them. The 18mm is not an ideal macro lens but switching the X-Pro1 to macro mode in the menu I was able to focus close enough to capture the first three images below while the other two below that were shot on the 55-200mm Fujinon. All images taken on a Fujifilm X-Pro1 + Fujinon 55-200mm f3.5/f4.8R OIS or Fujinon 18mm f2R lenses -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small fee for every click thru from Google and this helps support this blog - thank you for helping ----------------------------------------------------------------------------...
