Thornton Glen Nature Reserve

On Thursday I visited the ruins of Innerwick Castle - see blog post HERE - which is situated within the Thornton Glen Nature Reserve. The reserve, which is managed and maintained by the Scottish Wildlife Trust , is a wooded glen with an abundance of ferns, wild flowers, birds and has Thornton Burn running through the middle. The entrance is on the edge of the village of Crowhill and if you blink you will probably miss the style that leads into the secluded reserve. Parking is on the road in the village so consideration for the residents is key when visiting the reserve. The first thing that hits me was the smell of wild garlic, the ground is covered with thousands of white flower heads and as you walk along the narrow, muddy, path you are accompanied by this wonderful but very pungent smell.
