Track Walk in Bahrain

Image
SMP Racing - Fujifilm X-T2 + XF100-400mm At each of the nine FIA World Endurance Championship events the drivers and their engineers take part in the track walk.  This is their opportunity to get a close look at the circuit, see if there have been any changes from the previous years and also see where their car might be able to gain an advantage. Here in Bahrain the track walk took place late in the afternoon just before sunset and it was a hot walk in the desert for the drivers and their teams as they completed one lap on foot of the 5.4km Bahrain International Circuit. I took the X-T2 fitted with the XF100-400mm to the final corner to get some images of the drivers walking down the long final straight and also the X-Pro2 fitted with the XF90mm f2. Seeing A Picture With a Difference

Image
When working at a motorsport event it is very easy to get caught up in the 'big picture' capturing that racecar out on track or taking a dramatic image of a pitstop.  I occasionally like to step back from this and look for images that are not the norm or objects that lit by the sunlight. Take the shot at the top of the page.  This was a photocall for the no12 Rebellion Racing crew of Nelson Piquet Jr, Nico Prost and Mathias Beche.  I took some shots from the side on the pitfall and then I saw Rebellion on their race suits and decided to take a close shot of their legs and race boots.  this was captured on the X-Pro2 and XF50-140mm f2.8. The image below was also captured on the same combination of camera and lens while walking back to the pitlane from the multicar photoshoot at the last corner of the track.  The sun was very low in the sky and relaxing off of the red stripes that are painted on the inside of the last corner.  The colours and textures...

Post Race Press Conferences in Japan

Image
Once again after an exciting race in the FIA World Endurance Championship the top three driver crews, plus all the class winners, headed to the post race press conference where they talked about their races and faced questions from the international media. The two press conferences were once again recorded on one of my X-T1s for the FIAWEC official YouTube channel, the website and social media, and for the FIA website.  The X-T1 for the video was fitted with an XF16-55mm f2.8 while the second X-T1 was used to record still images of the drivers using the XF50-140mm f2.8. Here are the two videos and some of the still images from the final part of the 6 Hours of Fuji weekend in Japan. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. ...

On the Grid in Red Bull Ring

Image
Today was the third race of the 2015 European Le Mans Series, which was held on the magnificent Red Bull Ring near Spielberg in Austria.  Prior to the race I went down to the grid to take some images of the drivers and NASCAR stunt display, which was part of the pre race entertainment for the 12000 Austrian fans in the grandstands. Using the X-T10 and the Fujinon XF10-24mm f4 zoom I took some images around the grid.  I set the camera to RAW and JPEG but I was unable to read the RAW files so these shots are all JPEG files from the X-T10.  I set the camera to record the images in black and white. I then adjusted the contrast and brightness in Photoshop Elements to get the final results.   Filipe Albuquerque Charlie Robertson Ludovic Badey Gary Hirsch Pierre Perret The next round of the European Le Mans Series will be held at the Circuit Paul Ricard on the 14/15 September.  Before that we head to the Nurburgring for Round 4 of the W...

In the Pitlane at Le Mans

Image
Neel Jani - Porsche The atmosphere during Tuesday at Le Mans is a little bit of the calm before the storm as it is the final day before track action begins.  It is an opportunity for the public to grab another autograph or three and a selfie with their favourite drivers.  The cars are also on display for all to see. I wandered around the pitlane chatting to a few drivers and this gave me the opportunity to grab a few more portraits and atmosphere shots on the pair of X-T1s. The first X-T1 was fitted with the 10-24mm f4 wide angle zoom and the second body was fitted with the 50-140mm f2.8.  This combination gave me maximum flexibility without the need to keep swapping lenses and I was able to concentrate on getting the best images.
